Trump Lights Into CNN Reporter Over ‘Stupid Question’ About Iran Taking Him ‘Seriously’

President Donald Trump told a CNN reporter Sunday that multiple actions against Iran, including the June strike on its nuclear facilities, should make the theocratic regime take him “seriously.”

Trump and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have engaged in a back and forth on social media, with Trump warning Iran not to harm protesters who oppose the regime, and Khamenei posting an image of Trump in a coffin. During a press gaggle on Air Force One, Trump highlighted successful operations against radical Islamic terrorists during his first term, in addition to the capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. “Do you think Iran takes these threats seriously?” the CNN reporter asked, with Trump responding, “I think so. Don’t you think so, CNN? Don’t you think so? Wouldn’t you say they probably do at this point? After going through it for years with me, being hit, Soleimani, al-Baghdadi, the Iran nuclear threat wiped out, don’t you think — and then you just had Venezuela. Don’t you think — she says, CNN, ‘Do you think they take your threat seriously?’ Wouldn’t you say they do, after all the things we’ve done? What a stupid question.”

During the gaggle, Trump also warned that Khamenei’s regime was “starting to cross” a “red line” with its attacks on the protesters, as over 500 have reportedly been killed by the theocratic government, with at least 10,000 having been arrested.

The first Trump administration killed Qasem Soleimani, a notorious commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in a January 2020 strike. Forces from United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) took out Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who raped and murdered American hostage Kayla Mueller among other terrorist acts, in an October 2019 raid.

The United States bombed multiple facilities in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan related to Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons in a June 2025 strike, using as many as 14 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators in the operation, which involved a 37-hour flight by seven B-2A Spirit bombers. The operation inflicted significant damage to Iran’s nuclear program with no American losses.
