President Donald Trump announced on Monday the signing of an executive order to establish a 30,000-person migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.
The facility will be used to house some of the most dangerous illegal immigrants, doubling the current detention capacity at the site.
Speaking about the initiative, Trump underscored the necessity of taking tough measures to combat migrant crime and secure the nation’s borders.

“Today, I’m also signing an executive order to instruct the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security to begin preparing the 30,000-person migrant facility at Guantanamo Bay. Most people don’t even know about it. We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people,” Trump stated.
The former president emphasized that certain illegal immigrants are too dangerous to release back to their home countries, making Guantanamo Bay a strategic option for detainment.
“Some of them are so bad we don’t even trust the countries to hold them, because we don’t want them coming back. So we’re going to send them out to Guantanamo,” he explained.
“This will double our capacity immediately, right? And tough. That’s a tough—that’s a tough place to get out of.”
Trump framed the move as a crucial step toward ending what he called the “scourge of migrant crime” and blamed current immigration policies for making such actions necessary.
“Today’s signings bring us one step closer to eradicating the scourge of migrant crime in our communities once and for all, and it was just a purely—it’s just an unforced error that we even have to be doing this now,” Trump said.
In addition to the executive order, Trump urged Congress to provide full funding for border security efforts, including measures to remove illegal aliens from the country.
“We need Congress to provide full funding for the complete and total restoration of our sovereign borders, as well as financial support to remove record numbers of illegal aliens,” he stated.

The executive order marks a significant escalation in Trump’s approach to illegal immigration, reinforcing his commitment to strict enforcement policies.
By utilizing Guantanamo Bay for detaining high-risk individuals, the move signals a hardline stance as Trump continues to push for stronger border security and immigration enforcement.
