Trump Outrage Du Jour: How Dare He Fire the Sainted Librarian of Congress

Way back in 2016 and the waning days of his second term, President Barack Obama nominated an old friend to fill the post of Congressional Librarian.

Today, President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate Carla D. Hayden as Librarian of Congress.

 President Obama said, “Michelle and I have known Dr. Carla Hayden for a long time, since her days working at the Chicago Public Library, and I am proud to nominate her to lead our nation’s oldest federal institution as our 14th Librarian of Congress. Dr. Hayden has devoted her career to modernizing libraries so that everyone can participate in today’s digital culture. She has the proven experience, dedication, and deep knowledge of our nation’s libraries to serve our country well and that’s why I look forward to working with her in the months ahead. If confirmed, Dr. Hayden would be the first woman and the first African American to hold the position – both of which are long overdue.”

As with most things, Obama got what he wanted (Paul Ryan *spits* aside, the Senate vote was split 74-18) and, to the delight of the Left, Ms. Hayden was confirmed.

In 2016, life was a lot simpler with expectations about libraries and librarians. As with most things in general since then, the Left has done everything possible to weaponize every institution from within to effect the change they want imposed on society without. Libraries have been at the forefront of the subversive progressive movement, and Ms Hayden hasn’t let her august position go to waste advancing such change in her almost decade-long employment.

After simmering quietly along for Trump’s first term, once even hosting a roundtable with a young J.D. Vance to discuss Hillbilly Elegy, Hayden seemed to find her voice and get a sturdy set of legs to more selectively focus her energies during the Biden administration. Progressive causes and personalities became material for official boosts from the Congressional Librarian, including voices actively raised against the former president.

Ms Hayden weighed in on the controversy over books with sexual content for children being available in libraries, deeming them ‘so helpful,’ especially to parents. She actively encouraged appearing at school board meetings to support the continued presence of what most folks believe is inappropriate school material, particularly for certain ages.

…She also pointedly denounced attempts by parents to remove books about sexual identity targeted at young people from libraries.

Hayden wrote that librarians were ‘trusted people’ in the community and that it was important to have children’s books on sexual identity to offer them.

‘A children’s book, and that’s so helpful. I’ve had parents that I even work with, it just makes such a difference when you can share a book with a young person,’ she wrote.

She urged individuals to go to school board and other public hearings to endorse using their tax dollars to support children’s books featuring topics like sexual identity.

Falling under the purview of the Librarian of Congress, which I did not realize until today, is the United States Copyright Office. In 2020, Ms Hayden had the opportunity to appoint its director and chose a hyper-partisan Democrat censorship advocate.

Well…huh.

…Hayden appointed Shira Perlmutter as the Director of U.S. Copyright Office in 2020 which has also raised concerns from activists as she made extensive political donations to former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama and New York Democratic senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer.

The organization raised concerns about Perlmutter’s support for European-style online censorship and endorsing a ‘three strikes’ rule for individuals downloading copyrighted material on the internet.

‘Good things are beginning to come to pass’ as a result of the draconian rule, she explained at a forum, prior to her appointment in the copyright office.

So far, carbon copy progressive Democratic elite right?

What I found unforgivable about Ms Hayden and have despised her ever since, was this excruciating moment in time – allowing porcine puffer Lizzo to spit all over a priceless piece of American history – President James Madison’s legendary crystal flute – just because.

Being the class act that the uber avoirdupois musician was, she squealed with all the dignity one would expect.

‘B**h, I just twerked and played James Madison’s crystal flute from the 1800s,’ Lizzo boasted afterwards. ‘We just made history tonight.’

Oh, God. I just mean, barftastic.

In any event, Ms Hayden’s run was coming to a close as Congress had passed a law in 2015 that the once lifetime position would now be a ten-year term and require reappointment by the sitting president to remain in the office.

Trump made it clear he wasn’t reappointing Hayden to so much as dogcatcher when he fired her this morning.

President Trump unexpectedly fired Library of Congress head Carla Hayden on Thursday in a move that sent Democrats into a frenzy.

Hayden — the first woman and black librarian of Congress — received an email from the White House’s Presidential Personnel Office telling her she was terminated late Thursday.

“Carla,” the email began. “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective immediately. Thank you for your service.” 

Democrat heads are already exploding, conveniently forgetting both Ms Hayden’s myriad ethical and judgmental lapses in the office.

She was a bad seed from the start. I saw it and wrote about it all those years ago. She lied to Congress.

And the fact that she was out of a job in a couple of months, in any event, by statute.

Congress passed a bill— during your tenure and under Obama— to put term limits on the congressional librarian in 2015. Carla is going into her tenth year.

Once again, Democrats prove they are beyond parody, demanding that there now be a Congressional Librarian committee after a Republican president declines to retain the Librarian of Congress chosen by a *checks notes* Democrat president.

I would ask ‘Do they even listen to themselves?’ but we already know the answer to that.

If you see someone with their hair on fire today, it’s over the Librarian of Congress, and simply tell them to drop and roll before you start laughing.

It’s the polite thing to do.
