In a bizarre twist, gay and transgender liberals across the nation are reportedly rushing to arm themselves, citing unfounded fears of being rounded up into “concentration camps” if former President Donald Trump returns to the White House.
As The New York Post reported, this trend was detailed in a recent report by The Philadelphia Inquirer, which highlighted the rapid growth of left-leaning gun groups such as the Liberal Gun Club, Socialist Rifle Association, and Pink Pistols.
The Liberal Gun Club, for instance, claims it has received “thousands” of firearm training requests since the last election, with nearly a quarter coming from LGBTQ individuals.

These numbers, they say, surpass all of 2023’s requests combined. The frantic surge appears to stem from a misplaced belief that a Republican administration would usher in policies targeting LGBTQ individuals.
One trans woman, identified as “A,” told the Inquirer, “Three months before the election, that’s when the alarm bells started to ring.”
She justified her decision to purchase a firearm by stating, “Minorities that are armed are more difficult to legally oppress,” adding that her gun offers her a sense of security in the face of potential “hate crimes or terrorist attacks.”

The Socialist Rifle Association’s Philadelphia chapter has reportedly experienced a wave of new members, with gun safety classes filling up faster than they can schedule. Similarly, Pink Pistols—a gay gun advocacy group with the slogan “Armed Gays Don’t Get Bashed”—is seeing increased interest from LGBTQ individuals seeking firearms training.
Pink Pistols traces its roots back to a 2000 Salon article by writer Jonathan Rauch, advocating for homosexuals to embrace gun ownership as a form of self-defense.
Matthew Thompson, a 36-year-old gun owner from Oakland, New Jersey, told the Inquirer his interest in firearms was sparked by the tragic 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, in which an Islamic terrorist killed 49 people.
Thompson has since honed his skills, practicing quick draws and wearing his gun around the house. “The people I’ve been seeing on the left and the gay people who are out purchasing guns for the first time, it’s all about self-defense and fear,” Thompson said.
“We’re not looking to arm up and storm the capital. We just don’t want to be put in concentration camps.”

While Democratic men have seen a decline in gun ownership, with the number dropping from 36% between 2007-2012 to 29% in recent years, conservative women are moving in the opposite direction. A Gallup poll shows that 33% of Republican women now own firearms, compared to just 19% a decade ago.
As sociologist David Yamane from Wake Forest University observed, minority groups have been at the forefront of new gun ownership since 2020, a time marked by widespread social unrest.
However, the fears of the left seem rooted more in political hysteria than in reality. The notion of “concentration camps” under a Trump administration not only lacks evidence but underscores the left’s growing reliance on fearmongering.
