Former President Donald Trump delivered a fiery promise to supporters at AmericaFest 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona, declaring his intent to end what he called “transgender lunacy” and enforce the recognition of only two genders—male and female—as official policy in the United States, as reported by The New York Post.

Former president Donald Trump talks about the assassination attempt on him as he speaks to an audience during a town hall meeting at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

“With the stroke of my pen on day one, we’re going to stop the transgender lunacy,” Trump proclaimed to roaring applause, as captured in a video shared by C-SPAN.

He vowed to sign executive orders targeting policies that promote transgender ideology in schools and the military. “I will sign executive orders to end child sexual mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools,” he stated.

He further vowed to “keep men out of women’s sports,” underscoring his belief in preserving the integrity of female athletics. “Doesn’t sound too complicated, does it?” he quipped, drawing laughter and applause from the crowd.

This declaration comes on the heels of the Senate passing the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2024.

The $895 billion defense budget, passed with bipartisan support in an 85-14 vote, includes provisions barring military healthcare services from covering gender transition treatments for service members’ children under 18.

The NDAA, an 1,800-page bill, allocates funding and outlines expenditures for national defense. While it traditionally receives bipartisan support, this year’s inclusion of restrictions on transgender medical care for military dependents sparked controversy.

Republican lawmakers championed the measure as necessary to safeguard children, while Democrats, led by Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), strongly opposed it.

Baldwin, the first openly lesbian senator, criticized the provision, arguing it could affect 6,000 to 7,000 children of service members. The Modern Military Association of America estimates that approximately 10,000 transgender youth ages 6 to 22 have parents currently serving in the military.

For conservatives, the passage of the NDAA marks a significant victory. It not only curtails taxpayer-funded gender transition treatments for minors but also sets the stage for Trump’s broader agenda to dismantle policies that promote transgender ideology.

As Trump gears up for another White House run, his promises signal a return to policies that prioritize traditional values and confront the cultural shifts embraced by progressive movements. For his supporters, it’s a rallying cry to restore what they see as common sense in America’s social policies.
