President Donald Trump has dismissed reports suggesting he is open to repairing his relationship with tech mogul Elon Musk, stating flatly that he is not interested in speaking with Musk and referring to him as “a man who has lost his mind.”
As The Western Journal reported, the comment was relayed by ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl during an appearance on Good Morning America on Friday.
Karl said he had spoken directly to President Trump early that morning, following reports that White House officials were exploring the possibility of arranging a call between the president and Musk to deescalate their public feud.

“I asked Donald Trump about that,” Karl said. “He said he’s not particularly interested in talking to Elon Musk. He said Elon wants to talk to him; he’s not ready to talk to Musk, who he called, ‘a man who has lost his mind.’”
The deteriorating relationship between Trump and Musk comes amid public disagreements over the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), a Congressional package backed by Trump that aims to lower taxes, reduce the trade deficit, and limit the influence of the federal bureaucracy.
Musk has sharply criticized the bill on X, calling it “pork-filled” and a “disgusting abomination.”

In response to Musk’s public comments, Trump reportedly made remarks during a White House meeting with the German chancellor on Thursday, signaling his displeasure.

The exchange appears to have triggered a new wave of attacks from Musk, who responded by accusing Trump of being linked to the Jeffrey Epstein case and suggesting he should be impeached.
ABC also reported that President Trump is considering giving away or selling a red Tesla vehicle Musk once gifted him, indicating a further distancing from the billionaire entrepreneur.
During the broadcast, Karl and host George Stephanopoulos discussed the evolving dynamic between the two figures. While Stephanopoulos suggested they hold leverage over each other, Karl dismissed the idea of a power balance, calling it “asymmetric” and tilted in Trump’s favor.

“Donald Trump, to use his phrase, really holds the cards here,” Karl said. “Donald Trump could do severe damage to Elon Musk if he were to go vindictive.”
Karl noted that while Trump has thus far been “remarkably restrained,” Musk’s ongoing criticisms could provoke a stronger response from the White House, particularly given Musk’s ties to major federal contracts and regulatory oversight.
The rift between the two has widened significantly since Musk, who once led the Department of Government Efficiency during Trump’s first term, began publicly airing his opposition to Trump’s legislative agenda earlier in the week.
