The installations, one on the North Lawn and the other on the South Lawn, were described by Trump as a gift to the country and part of a vision he has held for years.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that I will be putting up two beautiful Flag Poles on both sides of the White House, North and South Lawns. It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,” Trump said in a statement issued Tuesday evening.
According to the president, installation began at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the flags expected to be raised around 11 a.m. Eastern Time.

The poles, Trump said, are “the most magnificent poles made – They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality.”
Trump said he hopes the poles and flags will “proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come.”
While walking along the South Lawn during the inspection, Trump greeted workers and briefly addressed members of the press. He was asked to describe how his second term in office compares to his first.
“I was the hunted, now I’m the hunter,” Trump replied.

The flagpole installation is the latest in a series of highly visible additions and restorations around the White House grounds during Trump’s administration.
The project is being entirely funded by the president personally, at no cost to taxpayers.
The installation of the flagpoles marks the first time permanent flagpoles have been added to both lawns simultaneously.
The new additions come at a time when the administration has made efforts to emphasize patriotic symbolism and traditional displays of American heritage throughout Washington, D.C.
The project also follows Trump’s previous comments about enhancing the historical and visual character of the White House grounds.
The president has not stated whether any formal ceremony will accompany the raising of the flags, but the White House did confirm that the installations would be completed by the end of the day.
Trump did not comment further during his brief remarks but acknowledged the workers and waved to nearby staff and photographers.
He made no public remarks on policy issues during the South Lawn appearance.
