President Donald Trump criticized late-night host Jimmy Kimmel during a Thursday appearance on The Five, calling for him to be removed from television following recent remarks aimed at Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, as reported by the New York Post.

Trump addressed Kimmel’s comments during a phone interview on the Fox News program, responding to a recent monologue in which Kimmel mocked Mullin’s background.

“Well, I’ve watched this guy. He’s a loser. He gets no ratings. None. He’s got no talent. He’s got Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Trump told the hosts of “The Five.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

“Whenever I watch, I just can’t believe that he’s even on the air. He shouldn’t be on the air. He should be canned.”

The president’s remarks came after Kimmel criticized Mullin during his March 24 monologue, referencing the former senator’s background as a plumber and MMA fighter.

During the segment, Kimmel said the United States has “a plumber protecting us from terrorism now.”

He also joked, “Well, if it works for Super Mario, why not Markwayne?” and suggested rapper Lil Wayne as an alternative to former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, saying, “At least we could get a concert out of it.”

Trump used the Fox News appearance to defend Mullin’s qualifications, pointing to his business background and experience prior to entering public service.

“You know, he became very successful,” Trump said. “He took over a small company from his parents — and he made it very, very successful. Made money. He was also a very good fighter. I never heard of low-level MMA.”

The president added that Mullin had “a very good record in fighting,” describing his past opponents as “rough cookies,” and said that background demonstrates he remains “sort of a fighter.”

“You know, I call him country smart,” Trump said. “He’s a very smart guy. Everybody loves him. And I think he’s gonna do a fantastic job.”

The exchange marks the latest in a series of public clashes between Trump and Kimmel. In November, Kimmel responded to previous criticism from Trump by addressing repeated calls for his removal from television.

“I have honestly lost count now of how many times the president has demanded I be pulled off the air. I mean, talk about a snowflake, this guy. Every five weeks, he flips out and wants me fired,” Kimmel said at the time.

The tension between the two figures has been ongoing, with previous incidents drawing attention.

In September 2025, ABC suspended Kimmel’s show “indefinitely” following controversial comments about Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Kimmel was off the air for approximately one week before returning.

The latest remarks highlight continued disagreements between the president and late-night television personalities, particularly over political commentary and public officials.
