President Donald Trump held a White House press conference on Tuesday evening to announce a groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure project and address a range of pressing topics, including his decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol events.
The event marked a continuation of Trump’s swift action during the first 48 hours of his second term.
President Trump revealed a historic collaboration between OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle to launch “Stargate,” an AI infrastructure project aimed at solidifying the United States’ position as a global leader in artificial intelligence.

Joining Trump for the announcement were SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Oracle’s Larry Ellison.
“Together, these world-leading technology giants are announcing the formation of Stargate. So put that name down in your books because I think you’re going to hear a lot about it in the future,” Trump stated during the press conference.
He explained that the project represents an unprecedented $500 billion private sector investment in AI infrastructure in the U.S. and will create over 100,000 American jobs almost immediately.

The initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering innovation and maintaining the United States’ technological edge in the increasingly competitive global AI industry.
During the press conference, President Trump also addressed his decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals connected to the January 6 Capitol events.
A couple dozen received commutations as their cases are reviewed for potential full pardons.
Responding to a question about those accused of “assaulting officers,” Trump highlighted the inconsistencies in the justice system.
“Murderers today are not even charged. You have murderers that aren’t charged all over,” he said, pointing to cities like Philadelphia and Portland, where homicide rates have surged since 2020.
“These people have already served years in prison, and they’ve served them viciously. It’s a disgusting prison. It’s been horrible, it’s inhumane,” Trump added, describing the conditions faced by those incarcerated for their involvement in January 6.
He also noted the disparity in how justice was applied, drawing attention to the Biden administration’s handling of Black Lives Matter (BLM) riots in 2020, during which hundreds of rioters attacked police and stormed federal buildings, including the White House, without facing similar consequences.
At one point during the press conference, a reporter attempted to interrupt Trump’s remarks on the pardons, prompting the president to respond sharply before continuing.
Trump’s comments highlighted his frustration with what he described as a biased system of justice, stating, “These people have served years of jail, their lives have been ruined.”

The January 6 pardons were among President Trump’s first executive actions after taking office Monday night.
The pardons follow years of aggressive prosecution by the Biden Department of Justice, which targeted protesters with heavily armed FBI SWAT teams for charges such as misdemeanor trespassing.
Trump contrasted this with the lack of similar action against those involved in the 2020 BLM riots.
In addition to the Stargate project and pardons, Trump has signed a flurry of executive orders since his inauguration, signaling a rapid return to his agenda.
Among them are directives addressing infrastructure, tariffs, and foreign policy.
Tuesday’s press conference underscored the administration’s priorities, combining a focus on technological advancement with addressing cultural and political flashpoints.
As Trump moves forward in his second term, his actions continue to spark significant debate and reaction across the political spectrum.
