Late Monday night, the Department of Justice dropped a bombshell, releasing Jack Smith’s highly anticipated Volume One report on his January 6 investigation into President Trump.
As reported by The Gateway Pundit, the release came after a temporary injunction blocking the document expired, giving Attorney General Merrick Garland the green light to make it public.
Predictably, Smith used the report as an opportunity to rehash discredited claims against Trump while downplaying the broader failures of his legal crusade.

Smith’s original charges against Trump, filed in September 2023, included conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.
However, the US Supreme Court effectively dismantled Smith’s case last June when it overturned the 18 USC §1512(c)(2) obstruction charge. This ruling gutted a key pillar of Smith’s narrative, leaving his legal arguments in tatters.
Despite the setback, Smith absurdly claimed in his report that Trump would have been convicted if not for his 2024 election victory.
In his desperate bid to maintain credibility, Smith wrote that Trump’s alleged offenses were among “the most flagrant, the public harm the greatest, and the proof the most certain.”
But his assertions rang hollow given the Supreme Court’s decisive ruling.
Smith also defended his failed prosecution by arguing that the Constitution prohibits the indictment of a sitting president.
“The Department’s view… does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Office stands fully behind,” Smith’s report stated.
Unsurprisingly, President Trump did not hold back in his response.
Taking to Truth Social, Trump unleashed a blistering critique of Smith and his report.
“Deranged Jack Smith was unable to successfully prosecute the Political Opponent of his ‘boss,’ Crooked Joe Biden, so he ends up writing yet another ‘Report’ based on information that the Unselect Committee of Political Hacks and Thugs ILLEGALLY DESTROYED AND DELETED,” Trump posted.
He also accused Smith of being a “lamebrain prosecutor” who failed to get his case tried before the election, which Trump declared he won “in a landslide.”
In a follow-up post, Trump highlighted the timing of the report’s release, noting, “To show you how desperate Deranged Jack Smith is, he released his Fake findings at 1:00 A.M. in the morning. Did he say that the Unselect Committee illegally destroyed and deleted all of the evidence?”
Smith’s report and Trump’s response underscore the ongoing tensions surrounding the DOJ’s politically charged investigations. As the 2024 election approaches, the American people seem poised to have the final say.
