President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Brendan Carr to serve as Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), highlighting Carr’s track record on free speech and regulatory reform. “His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman,” Trump wrote. He described Carr as a “warrior for Free Speech” who has fought against “regulatory Lawfare that has stifled Americans’ Freedoms and held back our Economy.”
“He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America’s Job Creators and Innovators and ensure that the FCC delivers for rural America,” Trump added.
Carr expressed his gratitude in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying he was “humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the FCC.”

Carr has been vocal in his criticism of Big Tech’s role in what he calls a “censorship cartel.”
We must dismantle the censorship cartel and restore free speech rights for everyday Americans.

Recently, he accused major companies like Facebook, Google, Apple, and Microsoft of coordinating efforts to suppress dissenting viewpoints.
He also criticized organizations such as NewsGuard and fact-checking groups for enforcing biased narratives.
“Facebook, Google, Apple, Microsoft & others have played central roles in the censorship cartel. The Orwellian named NewsGuard along with ‘fact checking’ groups & ad agencies helped enforce one-sided narratives. The censorship cartel must be dismantled,” Carr wrote on X.

Carr has also advocated for holding Big Tech accountable for censorship, opposing efforts by Democrats to reinstate Obama-era net neutrality regulations.
In an interview with Breitbart News, he described net neutrality as a “power grab by the administrative state” and an “unlawful overreach” that could conflict with the Supreme Court’s “major questions” doctrine.
“Once the Democrats achieved a majority at the commission, the agency announced in September that they would seek to revive the Obama-era net neutrality regulations,” Carr noted.
Net neutrality rules aim to prevent internet service providers (ISPs) from blocking, slowing, or offering paid prioritization for internet access.
Carr warned that reinstating net neutrality would focus on government overreach rather than addressing pressing issues such as Big Tech censorship.
Carr has also taken a strong position against the Chinese-owned social media platform TikTok, advocating for its ban over national security concerns.
He has described TikTok as both a surveillance and cultural threat to the United States.
“If TikTok was simply a platform where people could speak their mind, get all sorts of content, that’d be one thing,” Carr said in an earlier interview with Breitbart News. “But because TikTok has engaged in espionage, it has admitted that it was spying on journalists in the U.S. that were writing negative stories about TikTok, they [are] in a situation where the First Amendment does not require the government to allow the national security risk to persist.”
Carr’s nomination comes as Trump continues to announce key appointments for his incoming administration.
With Carr at the helm of the FCC, the agency is expected to focus on free speech protections, accountability for Big Tech, and fostering innovation while scaling back regulatory overreach.
