The department’s mission will be to streamline the federal government, eliminate unnecessary spending, and overhaul regulatory structures, according to an official statement from Trump’s team on Tuesday evening.
Trump described DOGE’s purpose as creating a “more efficient U.S. government” aimed at benefiting American citizens by reducing government waste and bureaucracy. “It will become, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time,” Trump stated. He further noted that the objectives of DOGE have been long-standing goals among Republican leaders.
Musk and Ramaswamy, both high-profile figures with backgrounds in technology and business, are expected to work with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to execute large-scale reforms, providing “advice and guidance from outside of government.”
Trump emphasized that their approach would bring a fresh, entrepreneurial mindset to Washington, aiming to make the government more accountable to the American public.

The president-elect has tasked DOGE with delivering results by July 4, 2026, aligning with America’s 250th anniversary. “Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026 — A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence,” Trump said, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to meet the ambitious timeline.
Ramaswamy responded to his appointment in a post on X, writing, “We will not go gently, Elon Musk,” signaling his commitment to tackling the bureaucracy that Trump aims to address.

Ramaswamy has been a vocal supporter of Trump since suspending his presidential campaign in January and recently confirmed that he has withdrawn his name from consideration for an Ohio Senate appointment.
“And yes, this means I’m withdrawing myself from consideration for the pending Senate appointment in Ohio,” he stated, adding his support for whoever Ohio Governor Mike DeWine selects for the position.
Elon Musk, a recent and high-profile supporter of Trump, has actively backed Trump’s campaign, especially in key battleground states.
In a statement following his appointment, Musk wrote, “Threat to democracy? Nope, threat to BUREAUCRACY!!!”

His endorsement of Trump came this summer, following an assassination attempt on the president-elect in July, marking Musk’s break from his previous support for Democratic candidates, including President Joe Biden.
DOGE’s formation is one among several major cabinet appointments Trump has made since his resounding victory over Kamala Harris.
Among other key picks, Trump has selected Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel.
Trump’s administration is shaping up with a strong roster of conservative leaders committed to implementing his “America First” agenda.
With Musk and Ramaswamy now at the helm of DOGE, the administration aims to drive large-scale efficiency reforms, cut federal spending, and foster government accountability as part of its efforts to reshape Washington over the next four years.
