President Donald Trump revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, a senior White House official confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The termination of Harris’ security detail will end by Sept. 1, CNN first reported. Vice presidents typically receive security detail for the first six months after they leave office, though former President Joe Biden signed a directive to extend her protection shortly before leaving office.
“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” Trump’s letter reads. (RELATED: Americans Trust Secret Service Less Than IRS After Trump Shooting, Poll Shows)

Kirsten Allen, a senior adviser for Harris, told CNN that the former vice president is “grateful” to the Secret Service for their “professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety.”
This move followed Harris’ announcement that she would not run for governor of California in 2026 and as she is preparing for a new book tour to sell her memoir, “107 Days.”
Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom was briefed on Harris losing her detail late Thursday, CNN reported. His spokesperson, Bob Salladay, stated that no public official should be “subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses.”
The Los Angeles Police Department could provide Harris security protection, CNN reported. Democrat Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass the termination of Harris’ security detail is an “act of revenge” by Trump.
Trump terminated Biden’s security clearances and discontinued his daily intelligence briefings so he would no longer receive classified information in February. He also revoked Secret Service protection for former national security adviser John Bolton in January.
