President Donald Trump announced Monday that he will host Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House in 2026 for an official State visit.
In a TruthSocial post, Trump said he had spoken to Xi on the phone about “Ukraine/Russia, Fentanyl, Soybeans and other Farm Products, etc.” During the phone call, Trump said he agreed to visit Beijing in April, and Xi accepted his invitation to come to the White House later on in 2026. “Our relationship with China is extremely strong! This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea, three weeks ago. Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate,” Trump wrote.
“Now we can set our sights on the big picture. To that end, President Xi invited me to visit Beijing in April, which I accepted, and I reciprocated where he will be my guest for a State Visit in the U.S. later in the year. We agreed that it is important that we communicate often, which I look forward to doing. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
Trump met with Xi in October while on a week-long trip to Asia. After the meeting, Trump wrote on TruthSocial that there is enormous respect between the two countries. He announced that China has agreed to help America with the fentanyl crisis and will begin to purchase soybeans, adding that China may engage in a “very large transaction” with the U.S.
The president added that China agreed to continue the flow of “Rare Earth, Critical Minerals, Magnets, etc.,” something Trump previously said the country was threatening to cut off.
Monday’s phone call was meant to build on the October conversation the two leaders had.
Xi visited Mar-a-Lago during Trump’s first term, something the president has considered facilitating again in his second term. The Chinese president visited the White House for an official State visit in 2015 under former President Barack Obama.
