One week into President Donald Trump’s second term, a dramatic shift at the southern border has made headlines. The number of illegal crossings has plunged, proving that decisive leadership paired with empowered enforcement can yield immediate results, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.
For years, the southern border was inundated under Biden’s watch, with thousands crossing daily. But as of January 26, the tide has turned. According to reports, fewer than 600 people illegally crossed the border on Sunday—a jaw-dropping decline from the chaos of recent months.
Sources told Fox News that none of the nine border sectors recorded more than 200 crossings that day. In the Del Rio sector, which saw over 4,000 crossings daily during December 2023, only 60 crossings were logged.

For context, border encounters during Biden’s final days in office ranged from 1,200 to 1,400 per day.
From January 20 to January 22, the first three days of Trump’s administration, just 2,523 border encounters were recorded. That’s daily totals of 1,073, 736, and 714—numbers that would’ve been unthinkable mere weeks ago.
Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin, who has long covered the border crisis, highlighted the shift on social media:
“NEW: Per sources, Border Patrol recorded just 582 illegal crossings at the southern border yesterday, with not a single one of the nine sectors hitting 200. I’ve never seen anything this low in all of my border coverage. The numbers were already flat/low in Biden’s final week…but the numbers have been falling off a cliff since Trump took office.”

While some in the media conveniently avoid addressing the root of this change, it’s impossible to ignore the implications. Trump’s administration empowered the Border Patrol to actually enforce immigration laws rather than turning a blind eye to the crisis, as was the norm under Biden.
It’s hard not to connect the dots. For years, the Biden administration let the border spiral into chaos, prioritizing political optics over national security. The numbers now make it glaringly clear: the previous administration could have addressed this crisis but chose not to.

Trump’s swift action has proven that securing the border is not a logistical impossibility—it’s a matter of political will. The American people deserve to ask why the Biden administration failed to act, leaving border states overwhelmed and the nation vulnerable.
