The number of illegal immigrants released into the United States during President Trump’s first 100 days in office was just nine, compared to 184,000 during the same period under former President Joe Biden, according to Border Czar Tom Homan, as reported by The New York Post.

Tom Homan speaks on the last day of Turning Point’s four-day AmericaFest conference on Dec. 22, 2024, in Phoenix.

Homan shared the figures during an interview on Tuesday on “Fox and Friends,” emphasizing the significant turnaround under President Trump’s leadership.

“In that same time frame that we released nine, [the Biden administration] released 184,000 illegal aliens in the country. President Trump is a game changer. What’s happening on the border, he did in seven weeks what Joe Biden couldn’t — or wouldn’t — do in four years.”

The White House highlighted that the administration has achieved a 99.99% decrease in so-called “gotaways” — illegal entrants not apprehended by authorities — describing them as “the top threat to public safety.”

Homan clarified that the nine individuals released during President Trump’s first 100 days had legitimate grounds for release: four were material witnesses in criminal investigations, another four were in “extreme medical distress,” and one was released on humanitarian grounds.

Under the Biden administration, up to 15,000 migrants per day were recorded illegally crossing the border, Homan said. In contrast, he noted that just 178 illegal crossings were recorded on Monday across 2,000 miles of the southern border.

Illegal border encounters are down by 95%, according to figures released by the White House. Homan also announced that the Trump administration has deported approximately 139,000 individuals since President Trump’s return to office, stating that “the numbers are good.”

Homan estimated there are more than 20 million illegal migrants currently in the United States. His agency is prioritizing the apprehension of approximately 700,000 migrants who have been accused or convicted of crimes.

“That’s who we’re looking for now, that’s [what we’re] prioritizing, them and national security threats,” Homan said during a White House press briefing on Monday.

April saw only about 11,000 individuals caught illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, setting a new record low and beating the previous record set in February.

The White House credited President Trump for “ushering in the most secure border in modern American history,” adding that he has “made good on the promises he made on the campaign trail to usher in an unprecedented era of homeland security.”
