Three senior FBI officials, including one who helped investigate President Donald Trump, are being fired, according to multiple reports.
Agents facing dismissal include Brian Driscoll, who briefly served as acting director at the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term, and Walter Giardina, who worked on investigations related to Trump and his advisor Peter Navarro, the New York Times reported Thursday.
Washington Field Office acting director Steve Jensen is also being dismissed, according to CNN.
The FBI declined the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Emil Bove, while serving as Acting Deputy Attorney General in February, accused Driscoll of “insubordination” when he opposed efforts to turn over information about FBI agents who worked on Jan. 6 investigations, according the NYT. Senate Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley requested FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi produce records related to Giardina in June, citing his alleged misconduct.
Whistleblower disclosures accused Giardina of falsely stating the Steele Dossier was “corroborated as true,” wiping a laptop he was assigned while working for special counsel Robert Mueller and stating “openly his animosity toward President Trump,” according to Grassley’s letter.
During a press conference on Thursday regarding charges brought against the man accused of murdering two Israeli Embassy staffers, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro did not answer a question regarding Jensen, who was expected to appear.
“I’m not going to talk about politics today,” she said. “I’m talking about crime. I’m talking about hate crimes. And that’s the extent of it.”
