Border security measures under President Donald Trump have led to a dramatic drop in illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border, with just 8,326 migrants recorded in February.
This marks a sharp contrast from the numbers seen under former President Joe Biden’s administration.
Trump announced the success of his border policies in a statement on Truth Social, declaring, “The Invasion of our Country is OVER.”

He continued, “The month of February, my first full month in Office, had the LOWEST number of Illegal Immigrants trying to enter our Country in History – BY FAR! There were only 8,326 apprehensions of Illegals by Border Patrol at the U.S. – Mexico Border, all of whom were quickly ejected from our Nation or, when necessary, prosecuted for crimes against the United States of America. This means that very few people came – The Invasion of our Country is OVER.”
The drop in illegal crossings follows months of surging migration numbers during the Biden-Harris administration.
In December 2023, 373,883 migrants were caught or arrested at the U.S. border, a number that dropped to 124,000 in December 2024, Biden’s last full month in office.
However, with Trump’s border security policies back in place, illegal crossings have plummeted even further.

Trump contrasted the current situation with Biden’s policies, saying, “In comparison, under Joe Biden, there were 300,000 Illegals crossing in one month, and virtually ALL of them were released into our Country. Thanks to the Trump Administration Policies, the Border is CLOSED to all Illegal Immigrants. Anyone who tries to illegally enter the U.S.A. will face significant criminal penalties and immediate deportation.”
Biden’s administration had prioritized open-border policies that were widely supported by economic, political, and media elites, but Trump’s election brought a decisive shift in policy.
Under the previous administration, the Department of Homeland Security, led by Alejandro Mayorkas, created the controversial “parole pipeline” programs that allowed thousands of migrants to enter the U.S. under broad legal justifications.
Trump has since ended these programs, cutting off a major channel for illegal migration.
Trump has also reinstated policies aimed at preventing the mass release of illegal immigrants into the country.
His administration has leveraged economic pressure on Mexico and Central American nations to curb northward migration.
Additionally, he has ramped up efforts to combat drug trafficking from Mexico and China, which had surged under the Biden administration.
The previous administration’s policies allowed an estimated 9 million illegal migrants to enter the U.S., creating economic and social strain on cities and states nationwide.
Many of these migrants have been placed in taxpayer-funded housing and assistance programs, putting additional pressure on local communities.
Trump has indicated that deportations of those who entered under Biden’s tenure will be a priority moving forward.
Beyond securing the southern border, Trump has also set his sights on reforming legal immigration pathways that have contributed to job market disruptions for American workers.
His administration is reviewing programs such as the H-1B visa system, which has allowed an influx of foreign workers, particularly from India and China, into white-collar jobs in the U.S.
February was the lowest month in recorded history for encounters at our border. The world is hearing our message: do not come to our country illegally. If you do, we will find you, arrest you, and send you back.

Critics argue that the visa program has suppressed wages and blocked opportunities for young American professionals, particularly in technology and engineering fields.
With border crossings at historic lows, Trump’s administration now turns to the challenge of addressing the long-term impact of Biden’s policies, including the economic consequences of unchecked migration.
While the number of illegal crossings has dropped significantly, Trump continues to emphasize the need for sustained border enforcement and immigration reform to ensure national security and economic stability.
