Karoline Leavitt, a prominent voice in the conservative media landscape, is pushing for a revamp of the White House briefing room to better align with how Americans consume news today.

Republican candidate for New Hampshire’s 1st District congressional seat Karoline Leavitt of Hampton votes at Winnacunnet High School Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. She is challenging two-term incumbent Democratic Rep. Chris Pappas of Manchester.

In a recent Fox News appearance, Leavitt highlighted former President Donald Trump’s transparency during his first term and argued for including non-traditional media voices in the press corps.

“There has never been a more transparent president than Donald Trump,” Leavitt said. “We saw that in his first term. He consistently called the press into the Oval Office when he was signing bills. He took questions from them directly. That’s something the press, I know, is yearning for. They have not had that over the past four years.”

Leavitt emphasized that the Trump administration would increase access for both the press and the American public. “Their transparency and their access to the leader of the free world will be increased, and also to the press secretary as well. We will be holding briefings in that room,” she said.

However, Leavitt did not stop at advocating for more frequent briefings. She called for a significant update to the composition of the White House press corps to reflect changing media habits. “I think as far as the landscape of the briefing room, it needs to reflect the media habits of the American people in 2024, not in the 1980s,” she stated.

Leavitt pointed to Trump’s successful use of non-traditional media during his campaign as evidence that the American people are increasingly turning away from legacy outlets. “President Trump won this election by utilizing non-traditional, non-legacy media voices outside the beltway. That’s clearly who the American people are listening to. That’s how they’re digesting their news,” she explained.

Leavitt made it clear that incorporating these voices into the White House briefing room is not just a priority but a responsibility. “I think it would be irresponsible of us not to include some of those voices in the briefing room,” she said.

As she prepares to take on a key communication role, Leavitt stressed her commitment to effectively delivering the President’s message to the public. “It is my job to communicate the President’s message to the American people as effectively as possible, and we’re looking into some of those in,” she concluded.

The proposed changes reflect a broader effort by Trump’s team to break away from traditional norms and appeal directly to the American people, leveraging the growing influence of alternative media platforms.
