Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said Sunday that the Trump administration’s new tariff policy is already pushing countries to the negotiating table, just days after President Trump announced his updated economic agenda.

During an interview on CNN’s State of the Union, Rollins defended the administration’s position and described the strategy as part of a broader effort to rebuild the American economy around domestic industry and agriculture.

“I think it’s really important to realize that last Wednesday was when the president announced this new American order, the new American economic plan,” Rollins said.

“We’re now two days in, right? You’ve got two days of data.”

Rollins explained that the administration’s goal is to focus on strengthening American industries, particularly in agriculture, where U.S. producers face trade restrictions from other nations.

“This whole concept is about rebuilding an American economy around American goods, around American industry,” she said.

“We do already live under a tariff regime in this country, but it’s the tariff regime of China, of Mexico, of Brazil, of Australia, of countries that—Mexico won’t take our corn, Australia won’t take our beef. The country of Honduras takes more pork than the entire European Union does, American pork, I should say.”

Rollins emphasized that the current global trade environment disadvantages American farmers and ranchers, and said the Trump administration is aiming to reverse that trend.

“So, from our farming and ranching perspective, which is what I’m focused on, but happy to talk about anything that it has to, it is time for a change,” Rollins said.

“That’s what this president evoked last Wednesday.”

Rollins also stated that the administration has already seen a strong international response following the president’s announcement, with dozens of countries expressing interest in negotiating.

“So I think we’ll see in short order, a really positive outcome from this,” Rollins said.

“We already have 50 countries that have come to the table over the last few days, over the last weeks that are willing and desperate to talk to us. We are the economic engine of the world, and it’s finally time that someone, President Trump, stood up for America.”

President Trump’s new economic approach, unveiled last week, includes a strong emphasis on reciprocal trade, increased tariffs on imports from countries with restrictive trade barriers, and prioritizing American-made products.

The announcement has sparked discussion both domestically and internationally, particularly in industries heavily affected by foreign competition and import dependency.

The administration has made clear that trade imbalances, especially those affecting U.S. agriculture, are a central focus of the broader strategy to reshape America’s role in global trade.

Rollins’ remarks underscore the administration’s position that tariffs are being used as a tool to secure fairer trade arrangements and open new markets for American goods.

As of Sunday, no specific bilateral trade agreements related to the recent announcement have been finalized.

However, Rollins indicated that negotiations are underway and that outcomes could begin to materialize in the near future.
