During an episode of The Tucker Carlson Show released Friday, journalist Glenn Greenwald joined Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson in a discussion about CNN anchor Jake Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson’s new book, Original Sin, which outlines concerns about Joe Biden’s cognitive decline — concerns that had been widely raised by Republicans long before the 2024 election.
Carlson and Greenwald openly laughed about the timing of the revelations, highlighting what they saw as CNN’s delayed acknowledgment of Biden’s condition.
“So you are, I think, the dean of alternative media. You’ve been doing this longer than anybody that I know personally. So it must be a little weird to get scooped by CNN on Joe Biden’s dementia, like you had no idea,” Carlson said during the podcast.
“None of us knew.”

“None of us knew,” Greenwald replied sarcastically.
“There was that debate, and we were all shocked, but we were told he had a cold. So I was like, ‘OK, he’s on some cold medication. Who hasn’t been there before? It makes you a little dragged, a little groggy, a little just like dragged.’ But no, now Jake Tapper has uncovered the truth. It turns out Joe Biden was in cognitive decline.”
The book, released on May 20, includes accounts from sources who claim that Biden’s mental condition deteriorated rapidly during his time in office.

According to the book, concerns inside the White House reached a point where staff allegedly discussed the possibility of placing the former president in a wheelchair.
Tapper, a long-time defender of Biden during his presidency, has faced questions from both sides of the political spectrum regarding the timing of his revelations and the tone of his reporting now compared to previous years.
Carlson and Greenwald also joked about Tapper’s shift in tone and the process by which he and Thompson may have obtained the book’s information.
“Just a hardcore shoe leather investigative reporting,” Greenwald said.
“He’s working his sources, calling all the people in Washington, digging up FOIA documents.”
Greenwald criticized Tapper for what he characterized as a reversal of position on Biden’s mental condition.
“It’s one of those things where you kind of can’t believe what you’re witnessing because Jake Tapper is pretending to have uncovered a scandal that he himself led the way in the media, or one of the leaders in the media, in covering up,” Greenwald said.
He pointed to specific instances, including Tapper’s 2020 criticism of Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President Donald Trump, for raising concerns about Biden’s mental fitness.
At the time, Tapper accused Lara Trump of “mocking” Biden’s stutter after she noted what she believed to be signs of cognitive decline.
Greenwald also recalled Tapper’s handling of 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips, who expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to serve a second term.
Tapper dismissed Phillips’ concerns during a televised interview.
“Obviously, he wanted Biden to win desperately and would not tolerate anyone going on the show and saying that Biden was in cognitive decline,” Greenwald said.
“Now he’s making millions of dollars off a book.”
Following the release of Original Sin and the media attention surrounding it, Biden was asked about the book by reporters.
According to several accounts, Biden responded by saying he could “beat the hell out of” the two journalists, referring to Tapper and Thompson.
The release of the book and reactions from figures across the media and political spectrum come amid broader discussions in Washington about transparency surrounding Biden’s health while in office and the role major media outlets played in shaping the public narrative.
