Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson told British journalist Piers Morgan during a Wednesday interview that President Donald Trump must stay out of wars with America’s rivals to become “the most effective president” in U.S. history.

Trump campaigned on ending the Russia-Ukraine war and said during his 2024 inaugural address that he wants to finish wars and refrain from entering them, adding that his “proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier.” Carlson, on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” said the key to Trump achieving optimal effectiveness is to “avoid a war with Iran” and “a deepening war with Russia.” (RELATED: ‘National Security’ Officials Who Endorsed Harris Tied To Intel Agencies, Defense Contractors)

“In order to stop Trump, you need to massively derail not just him, but the country. You need a COVID and/or a war … if he can avoid a war with Iran and a war with Russia, a deepening war with Russia, he will be the most effective president really since the founding, I think. He will really change the country for the better,” Carlson told Morgan. “Those are the, as of today, those are the two things I can imagine where it’s just not possible to govern because you’re so distracted, because you’re so broke, because there’s so much else going on.”

Morgan noted that Carlson and Trump are both “anti-war instinctively,” with the British journalist asserting the president views war as “prohibitively expensive … both in terms of people who die and just financially ruinous.”

Carlson agreed, saying America is “broke because of wars.”

“There’s a huge debate in Washington about how to proceed, and there’s a lot of pressure on Trump to go to war with Iran and to deepen the war with Russia. And you could argue as to why people would want that, but they do. And a lot of them are donors, and they’re putting a lot of pressure on him and his nominees,” Carlson added. “And I think he wants to resist it, is my sense, because the people pushing it have an unbroken track record of failure and destruction. It’s not like if you’re some neocon foreign policy theorist, you can point to like a lot of successes. Look what we did in Libya. How’s Iraq doing? It’s insane. They’re insane.”

Trump’s Secretary of State Marco Rubio was confirmed by the Senate on the president’s first day of his second term. He has indicated that he is aligned with Trump’s views on foreign policy, including supporting a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

The secretary of state has also been outspoken about curbing Iran’s nuclear program. He said that he is open to a deal, but that any concessions the U.S. makes would likely prompt Iran “to build their weapons systems and to try to restart their sponsorship of Hezbollah and other related entities.”

“Prudence in the conduct of foreign policy is not an abandonment of our values,” Rubio said during his confirmation hearing on Jan. 15. “It’s the commonsense understanding that while we remain the wealthiest and the most powerful nation on the Earth, our wealth has never been unlimited … Placing our core national interest above all else is not isolation.”
