Two Police Officers Killed, Deputy and K9 Wounded in Domestic Disturbance Shooting [WATCH]

Two police officers were killed and a sheriff’s deputy was wounded Sunday night when a suspect opened fire as law enforcement responded to a domestic disturbance call in northern Utah.

Authorities confirmed the suspect is in custody and facing aggravated murder charges, as reported by Fox News.

According to the Brigham City Police Department, the incident began around 9:30 p.m. when multiple 911 hang-up calls were placed from a residence near North Park Elementary School in Tremonton.

Two Tremonton Garland Police Department officers and a Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office deputy were dispatched to the scene.

As one of the Tremonton Garland officers spoke with a person at the residence regarding a possible domestic disturbance, an armed male emerged from inside and fired at the officer, killing him.

A second Tremonton Garland officer rushed to provide aid and was also shot and killed.

The Box Elder County deputy arrived shortly after. While inside his vehicle, the deputy and his police service dog were shot by the suspect. Both were transported for medical care and were listed in fair condition on Monday morning, according to authorities.

Officials said nearby residents persuaded the suspect to put down his weapon. Additional responding officers then placed him under arrest. His identity has not yet been released publicly, but police confirmed he is facing charges of aggravated murder.

The names of the fallen officers and the injured deputy have not been released as officials work to notify family members.

In a statement, the Brigham City Police Department said:

“Tragedies like these rock an entire community, state and even nation. These officers and their families served their every day, and they will forever be remembered as heroes.”

Brigham City Detective Crystal Beck told reporters that the officers had called for backup during the confrontation, but at some point stopped responding to radio communications.

The shooting prompted a large-scale response from law enforcement agencies across Box Elder, Weber, and Cache counties. SWAT teams and additional officers secured the scene, though police emphasized that the suspect was not barricaded during the incident.

Authorities stated Monday that there is no continuing threat to the community but urged residents to avoid the area as the investigation continues.

One bystander, Randy Kilman, told FOX 13 Salt Lake City that he was driving near the scene when his vehicle was struck by a bullet. “I caught a bullet through the driver’s side door and it went out my windshield,” Kilman said.

“So I dove-tailed and ran and ran home and called my wife and told her to come outside, make sure I didn’t have no holes in me. It’s pretty freaky.”

The investigation remains ongoing as police process the scene and gather evidence.
