Two women have been arrested and charged with felonies for allegedly aiding escapees involved in the recent jailbreak from the Orleans Parish Correctional Center, where ten inmates, including a murder suspect, escaped in a coordinated effort late Friday night, as reported by The New York Post.

The Louisiana State Police announced the arrests of Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, in connection with the escape. Both are facing charges for assisting fugitives who fled the facility after removing a toilet to create an escape route.

According to investigators, Harris had been in phone contact with one of the inmates who remains at large and allegedly transported two escapees to multiple locations across New Orleans. Authorities did not identify which fugitives she assisted.

Baptiste is accused of maintaining contact with Corey Boyd, a murder suspect who was captured earlier this week. Police allege Baptiste communicated with Boyd over social media and phone calls and later helped supply him with food while he was in hiding.

Boyd had been awaiting trial for the alleged killing of a man during a car burglary in 2023. He was apprehended in New Orleans after several days on the run.

Officials have not confirmed whether Harris and Baptiste were acquainted or acted independently. Both women were booked into the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center and face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Their arrests bring the total number of people accused of aiding the escapees to three. Sterling Williams, 33, a jail employee, had previously been arrested for facilitating the escape.

Authorities say Williams turned off the water supply in the inmates’ cells, allowing them to remove a toilet from the wall and flee through a hole. Williams claimed he was threatened with a weapon if he refused to cooperate.

The escapees then reportedly scaled a barbed wire fence and ran across a nearby highway before disappearing into a residential area where they changed clothing.

As of Thursday, five of the ten escapees have been recaptured. The remaining five fugitives are still at large and are considered “armed and dangerous,” according to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.

“Those who choose to assist or conceal these individuals are violating the law and will be held accountable,” the Louisiana State Police said.

“Harboring fugitives threatens the safety of our communities and will not be tolerated.”

The investigation remains ongoing, with multiple agencies involved in the search for the remaining escapees.
