Republican Rep. Erin Houchin of Indiana is touting a major manufacturing win in her district as a direct result of President Donald Trump’s trade policies, as reported by Fox News.
Guardian Bikes, a U.S.-based bicycle company, has announced a $19 million investment to open a new production facility in Seymour, a move that is expected to significantly increase American manufacturing jobs and reduce reliance on Chinese imports.
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Houchin said the project represents a new era for American manufacturing, one built on the foundation of Trump’s aggressive tariffs and economic policies.

“The number of job opportunities that are available, the investment right here in southern Indiana — that’s money staying at home and certainly away from China,” said Houchin, who is now serving her second term in Congress.
Houchin recalled visiting Guardian Bikes shortly after her first election. At that time, the company employed just 16 people.
Now, with the new facility and financing secured through JPMorgan Chase, the company plans to launch what it describes as the first large-scale bicycle frame manufacturing operation in the United States.
“Currently, over 97% of bicycles are made outside of the United States,” Houchin noted. “Many are assembled here, but the component parts still come from China. Guardian Bikes relied on Chinese imports for 70% of its production.”

That changed following Trump’s 2024 re-election and the administration’s renewed trade focus. “They have been slowly working toward being 100% made in the USA,” Houchin said.
“This has been made possible by President Trump’s trade policies…it’s just pretty incredible that we have a president right now that is focused so much…on creating a level playing field for American companies.”
According to Guardian Bikes, the new investment will allow the company to scale up from producing 100,000 bicycles annually to over 1 million in the U.S.
“That’s just very, very exciting.”
Guardian Bikes CEO Brian Riley emphasized the strategic importance of the move.

“We brought Guardian Bikes production to the U.S. because we believe the future of manufacturing is local, fast, and data-driven. Indiana, and specifically Seymour, offers the perfect combination of workforce, infrastructure, and proximity to our customer base.”
“It’s not just about making bikes – it’s about building a new model for American manufacturing.”
The company currently operates in California and Pennsylvania, and plans to expand into Texas and Georgia later this year.
White House spokesman Kush Desai praised the development, stating:
“Trillions in historic investment commitments from industry leaders – now including Guardian Bikes – since Election Day only reinforces what President Trump has been saying all along: if you make your product in America, you don’t have to worry about tariffs.”
Trump’s trade platform includes a 10% universal tariff on imports and a 145% tariff on all Chinese exports to the U.S., aimed at reducing dependency on foreign manufacturing and encouraging domestic production.
