While Ukraine has not officially confirmed the use of ATACMS in this attack, Ukrainian officials did acknowledge striking a military target in Bryansk, the same region where Russia says the missiles landed.

This development comes just two days after President Joe Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to deploy American long-range missile systems against targets on Russian soil—a decision Russian President Vladimir Putin previously warned would be tantamount to an act of war.

In a speech last month, Putin declared, “Flight assignments for these missile systems can, in fact, only be entered by military personnel from NATO countries. Ukrainian servicemen cannot do this. And therefore, it is not a question of allowing the Ukrainian regime to strike Russia with these weapons or not. It is a question of making a decision whether NATO countries directly participate in the military conflict or not.”
