Unidentified Man Wearing Bracelet Found Dead in Brooklyn’s Newtown Creek

Police in New York City discovered the body of a man in his 30s floating in Newtown Creek on Thursday afternoon, marking the latest in a string of grim discoveries in the waterway that divides Brooklyn and Queens, as reported by The New York Post.

According to law enforcement, officers responded to a 911 call around 12:15 p.m. near North Henry Street and Kingsland Avenue in Greenpoint.

When they arrived, they found the man unconscious and unresponsive in the water. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.

Authorities noted that the man was still wearing a hospital bracelet with an August date on it, though it remains unclear which hospital had issued it. The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.

The discovery is the third incident connected to Newtown Creek in recent months. Just one week earlier, police reported that the decomposed body of another unidentified man had been recovered in the creek, near Malt Drive in Long Island City.

In July, authorities said popular New York City DJ Reda Briki, 52, was found dead on a houseboat docked at Railroad Avenue and Greenpoint Avenue in the Newtown Creek Marina. His death also remains under investigation.

Police have not released the name of the man found on Thursday, pending identification and notification of family. The New York Police Department said the investigation is ongoing, with detectives working to determine whether the recent deaths in the area are connected.

The Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, where the latest body was found, is a heavily populated and increasingly upscale neighborhood known for its proximity to the East River and views of the Manhattan skyline.

Newtown Creek itself, however, is considered one of the city’s most polluted waterways, long associated with industrial dumping and environmental hazards.

City officials said the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, and investigators are examining whether foul play may have been involved.
