A press conference intended to address online fundraising and media scrutiny surrounding the family of Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing fellow student Austin Metcalf, devolved into confrontation Thursday as Metcalf’s father was escorted from the venue before the event began.

The press conference, held in Dallas and led by Dominique Alexander of the activist group Next Generation Action Network, was meant to address over $450,000 raised for Anthony’s family on the crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo and to allow Anthony’s mother, Kayla Hayes, to deliver a statement.

However, the event quickly turned contentious when Jeff Metcalf, father of the victim, attempted to attend and was removed under threat of criminal trespass.

Dallas police later confirmed to Fox News Digital that Metcalf left the event peacefully and no charges were filed.

“The preliminary investigation determined that one person was asked to leave the location and did so without incident,” police stated.

Anthony is currently facing a first-degree murder charge following an April 2 altercation at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, during which authorities allege he fatally stabbed Austin Metcalf under a tent after a verbal confrontation.

According to the arrest report, a witness said Anthony told Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens,” before reaching into his bag, pulling out a knife, and stabbing him.

The suspect then fled.

Metcalf later died in the arms of his twin brother.

After his arrest, Anthony was held on a $1 million bond, which was later reduced to $250,000.

He was released from Collin County Jail and remains free pending trial.

During the press conference, Alexander accused Metcalf’s father of disrespect and characterized his presence as inappropriate.

“He was not invited,” Alexander said. “He knows that it’s inappropriate to be near this family, but he did it.”

Alexander also accused “conservative operatives” of politicizing the incident, calling the criticism of Anthony and his family an example of racism and bigotry.

Insanity. Dominique Alexander, who represents Karmelo Anthony, just attacked Austin Metcalf’s father Jeff for attending a press conference held by the Anthony family, calling his presence “a disrespect to the dignity of his son.”

He claimed the funds raised via GiveSendGo had not been accessed.

“The family has not received one dime,” Alexander said, labeling allegations of misuse as “intentional disinformation.”

Alexander also criticized the Frisco Independent School District for initiating expulsion proceedings against Anthony just weeks before graduation.

He noted Anthony maintained a 3.7 GPA and claimed that even without attending additional classes, he could graduate.

Alexander implied that the school district bore some responsibility for the incident, questioning the decision to hold the track meet amid reports of inclement weather.

Frisco ISD responded with a statement citing student privacy law.

“If the school recommends expulsion… the student is not allowed to go on any Frisco ISD property while the decision is being made,” the district explained, noting the student will be allowed to present their case during a formal review.

Before turning the podium over to Anthony’s mother, Alexander denounced online criticism of Judge Angela Tucker, a Black Republican overseeing the case.

He suggested that the criticism showed race continues to be a dividing factor, regardless of political affiliation.

Kayla Hayes, speaking briefly, said her family had been “under attack” since the incident.

She claimed they had received threats and that personal information, including home and workplace addresses, had been leaked online. Hayes said the stress had taken a toll on her family’s mental health and safety.

Following Hayes’ remarks, Alexander resumed speaking, comparing Anthony’s situation to that of Kyle Rittenhouse and Daniel Penny, arguing that Anthony deserves the same legal protections and presumption of self-defense.

Jeff Metcalf, in previous interviews, has urged the public not to politicize his son’s death.

“This is not a race thing. This is not a political thing,” he told Fox News.

“This is a human being thing.”

Metcalf said his son died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who tried to stop the bleeding.

“They were best friends,” he said.

“Now I have to focus on taking care of Hunter.”

Metcalf also spoke about forgiveness.

“I forgive the other person because the forgiveness is not for him. The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace.”

The case remains under investigation as both families and the wider community await further developments.
