Viral ‘Flying Chair’ Knockout at Bar Triggered by Profane Beer Demand in Melbourne [WATCH]

A profane demand for a beer has been identified as the moment that set off a chaotic confrontation at a Melbourne bar that later exploded into a viral internet sensation, drawing tens of millions of views worldwide, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred Friday night at Bar 20, a venue located on King Street in Melbourne, Australia. According to Bar 20 co-owner Michael Trimble, the altercation began shortly after two men entered the bar at approximately 9:20 p.m.

Trimble said the pair were immediately aggressive toward staff, raising concerns before any drinks were served.

The situation escalated when one of the men ordered a bottle of Victoria Bitter, commonly known as VB.

Trimble said the bar manager retrieved the bottle and was preparing to open it when the patron made an inappropriate remark that caused her to pause.

“My bar manager pulled a bottle out of the fridge,” Trimble said.

“She was about to twist the top off when he looked at her and said something inappropriate. I’m not sure what he said, but it made her stop and think, ‘Maybe I don’t actually want to serve this guy.’”

As the barmaid hesitated, the man became increasingly hostile.

“He screamed, ‘Just open the f–king beer,’” Trimble said.

At that point, the staff called for security. Trimble said the verbal outburst over the beer was the final straw after what had already been an aggressive interaction.

What typically would have been a routine ejection lasting less than a minute instead turned into an extended confrontation.

“The whole incident went for about eight minutes,” Trimble said.

“It was a crazy long time for an ejection. Most people are out the door 30 seconds after being asked to leave. But this whole thing just went on for ages. They just refuse to leave.”

Once the two men were forced outside, the situation escalated further. One of the men briefly picked up a bollard from the street as if to use it as a weapon, before abandoning the idea.

According to Trimble, events then took an unexpected turn.

The man who would later be knocked unconscious returned to the entrance of the bar and attempted to apologize for his companion’s behavior.

“He had actually changed his tune and was apologetic,” Trimble said. “He was standing there apologizing for his mate’s behavior.”

At the same time, his friend had moved on to a neighboring Korean restaurant. CCTV footage shows the man taking a wooden chair from the restaurant, despite a staff member objecting and saying it was their “top chair.”

The man then hurled the chair toward the bar’s security staff.

The chair missed the intended target and instead struck the apologetic man in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious as security personnel looked on.

Video of the incident quickly spread online, amassing more than 27 million views within 24 hours and turning a brief confrontation on King Street into a global viral moment.

“I’ve seen plenty of instances of people making clowns of themselves in my 12 years in this industry,” Trimble said. “But nothing with the potential to go viral like that.”

Trimble said the chair was later given to him and is now displayed inside Bar 20.

“It is a piece of memorabilia now,” Trimble said. “We have dressed it up in a Bar 20 shirt and put it on display.”

The identities of the two men involved have not been released.
