During the CNN Kamala-Walz interview with Dana Bash, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota, the Democratic Vice Presidential nominee, struggled to directly address multiple allegations concerning his past statements and political record.
The interview highlighted long-standing questions about his military service claims and other controversial statements, which have become a focal point as he runs alongside Kamala Harris.
Walz faced a series of questions from Bash, who provided him an opportunity to clarify his statements to millions of Americans uncertain about his credibility.

The discussion specifically honed in on Walz’s past claims about his military service with the National Guard. Despite not having deployed to a combat zone, Walz had previously stated in a campaign video that he “carried weapons in war.” When questioned by Bash, Walz’s responses were evasive, focusing more on his emotional connection to public service rather than directly addressing the inaccuracies.
Tim Walz asked about lying and claiming he carried weapons in war said, “My grammar’s not always correct.” Holy crap. He’s a moron. He’s had a month to come up with a response and this is it?! pic.twitter.com/wAgPJx470o

“Well, first of all, I’m incredibly proud. I’ve done 24 years of wearing [the] uniform of this country. Equally proud of my service in a public school classroom, whether it’s Congress or — or the governor. My record speaks for itself, but I think people are coming to get to know me. I — I speak like they do. I speak candidly. I wear my emotions on my sleeves, and I speak especially passionately about — about our children being shot in schools and around — around guns. So I think people know me. They know who I am. They know where — where my heart is, and again, my record has been out there for over 40 years to — to speak for itself,” Walz stated.
Kamala is not good in this interview, but my goodness, Tim Walz is the dumbest person to ever be on a presidential ticket. Did he not know he was going to get asked about his lies? He said falsely claiming to carry guns in war was a “grammar mistake?!”

However, when pressed further about whether he misspoke regarding carrying “weapons of war,” Walz attributed the misunderstanding to a grammatical error influenced by discussions following a school shooting. “We were talking about, in these cases, this was after a school shooting, the ideas of carrying these weapons of war, and my wife, the English teacher, told me my grammar is not always correct,” he explained.
Walz’s military record was not the only subject under scrutiny. Bash also questioned him about previous claims concerning his wife’s fertility treatments and his 1995 arrest for drunken restless driving, which his congressional campaign had inaccurately described.

Again, Walz deflected these questions, preferring to highlight endorsements from former students and National Guard colleagues rather than directly address the accusations of dishonesty.
Moreover, Walz has been accused of falsely claiming to have retired as a command sergeant major, a rank he never attained, and of suggesting he served in Afghanistan, another inaccurate assertion. Throughout his career, he has also been challenged for inaccuracies surrounding his eligibility to retire from the military immediately after the 9/11 attacks, a claim debunked by his actual retirement date in 2002.
In an attempt to shift the focus, Walz criticized former President Donald Trump, accusing him of planning to institute a national abortion ban and restrict access to fertility treatments like IVF, despite Trump’s assurances to the contrary. “I think people are coming to get to know me,” Walz concluded, a statement that underscored the ongoing debate over his credibility and transparency.

As the interview aired, it became evident that Walz’s complex history and the nuances of his public and military service records would continue to be significant topics as the election approaches, challenging the Democratic ticket as they seek to consolidate support among undecided voters.
