Authorities in Washington state are investigating a deadly domestic dispute that resulted in one woman’s death, another seriously injured, and the suspected gunman fatally shot by a neighbor who intervened, as reported by Fox News.

The incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. on April 2 in Puyallup, where officers with the Puyallup Police Department responded to reports of gunfire.

Investigators allege that 47-year-old Arnino Guanlao opened fire on two adult female relatives following a family argument that escalated outside a residence.

According to police, the situation unfolded in a nearby driveway, where Guanlao allegedly shot both women.

A neighbor who had been inside at the time went outside after hearing the disturbance and intervened, fatally shooting Guanlao.

One of the victims, identified as 23-year-old Christiannel Lyle Macapagal Maningat, died at the scene.

The second woman was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the case remains under active investigation, including a review of the neighbor’s use of force.

Under Washington law, individuals may use force to defend themselves or others if they reasonably believe it is necessary, though deadly force is only justified in response to an immediate threat of serious injury or death.

“That’s under investigation as to exactly how the circumstances took place,” Puyallup Police Department Capt. Kevin Gill said during a press briefing.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted in the neighborhood. Michelle Weingarden-Bandes, who lives nearby, recounted what she saw as first responders arrived.

“There was a girl here who was face down, and she was still breathing a little and trying to move a little, but she wasn’t doing much. And then pretty quick a cop came on scene, and he and I pulled her out, turned her over and found her gunshot wound on her abdomen,” she told FOX 13 Seattle.

“We are all not just in shock about what we saw, those of us who were out here this morning, but that this has happened in our neighborhood.”

Investigators said the neighbor who shot Guanlao is cooperating with authorities as detectives work to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances.

Detectives are also working to establish what led to the initial dispute and are processing multiple locations connected to the incident.

Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots during the altercation, and police said they continue to interview witnesses who were present at the time.

Additional reporting by Law & Crime identified Guanlao as the stepfather of the victims and indicated that he was firing at his adult stepdaughters when the neighbor intervened.

Authorities have not disclosed what sparked the dispute.

The Puyallup Police Department said its Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Metro Cities Crime Response Unit, is continuing to examine the case. Officials have not announced any charges as the investigation remains ongoing.

The violence has had a significant impact on the victims’ family.

A GoFundMe campaign created to assist them states that the victims’ mother is now caring for her surviving daughters while grieving the loss of one child and supporting another who remains hospitalized.

According to the fundraiser, which has raised nearly $19,000, the family’s lives “changed in a matter of moments.”

The campaign notes that the funds will be used to cover funeral costs, medical expenses, and basic living needs as the family deals with the aftermath of the shooting.
