Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett is hitting the campaign trail, ghetto-populist talking points in hand.
Crockett, who is running for Senate, told a Houston crowd on Saturday, “This is about us. It is about reclaiming who we are. They want to try to act like we are the outsiders, but the last time I checked, we ain’t no colonizers.” (RELATED: Gas Just Got Poured On The Democrat Civil War Jasmine Crockett Started)
Inflammatory allusion to white people, check.
“The last time I checked, they took us from our homelands. But this is the only home that we know, and they have sold us a promise, a promise of America that meant that we would all have an opportunity, but right now a lot of people’s dreams are being dashed. They are telling us that we are ‘less than.’ I am here to tell you that we are ‘more than.’ Especially when we stand together.”
Ginning up emotion by referencing the transatlantic slave trade, check.

Crockett then explained her connection to entertainer Tyrese Gibson, with whom she was appearing onstage.
“So I just gotta say that I love my brother Tyrese. A lot of people don’t know who it is that I do know, because we have genuine relationships. It’s a lot of people that really lack courage in this moment. But my homeboy said, ‘Listen, imma be in your city … You gotta, you gotta be here.’ And I was like, ‘I may be in Houston.’”
Riveting stuff. Crockett then led the crowd through a series of “Where You Ats,” as in, “DeSoto, where you at?”
“The point is … I know y’all know who I am and I know that y’all know that I’m about this life … I done went all the way through East Texas, but my God said, you are comin’ on stage with me. I see a lot of women up front. How many of y’all got your bestie with you? Right. Let me tell you, I love this man. I know y’all do because y’all, y’all right up front, y’all doing the most, I know y’all do.” (RELATED: Jasmine Crockett Trailing Democrat Primary Opponent Less Than 50 Days From Election Day: POLL)
Crockett graduated from the Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School, a private kindergarten through grade 12 school, in 1999. The school is located in St. Louis, Missouri. She went on to graduate from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, before earning a J.D. from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas.
So, Crockett is a late-in-life Texan. She’s well-educated, or well-accredited, at least. That’s not to say Crockett’s a genius, but she’s probably putting on the “hood rat” act because she thinks it is what her audience wants to hear. She may be correct.
