A brutal winter storm turned a stretch of Oregon’s Interstate 84 into a demolition derby on Thursday, as a massive pileup involving 100 vehicles—including several big rigs—brought traffic to a standstill.
The treacherous conditions, caused by a fierce whiteout snowstorm, left drivers trapped and authorities scrambling to assess the damage, as The New York Post reported.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the chaotic chain reaction of crashes ignited an SUV fire and blocked the highway, leaving travelers stranded in the frigid conditions.

Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
Law enforcement images showed the SUV completely charred, but fortunately, all its occupants managed to escape unharmed.
Emergency crews worked tirelessly, navigating the wreckage to check for victims. While multiple injuries were reported, officials have yet to determine the exact number.
Fortunately, Oregon State Police confirmed that “most of the reported crashes are non-injury or minor injury.” As of Thursday afternoon, there were no known fatalities or serious injuries.
One couple caught in the mess described the sheer helplessness of the situation. “The visibility was so low by the time we got to the stopped traffic,” one traveler recounted.
“We tried to stop; we ended up smashing into a semi-truck and another passenger truck and got stuck there for a minute. We heard crashes behind us, so we decided to go ahead and go through, in between the semi-truck and the median.”
Their quick decision may have saved them from further danger as more vehicles continued to pile up.
The storm’s intensity forced the Oregon Department of Transportation to close both directions of I-84 between La Grande and Baker City, a nearly 50-mile stretch, citing “blowing and drifting snow with visibility less than 500 feet.”

Though the section was later reopened, the harrowing event served as a stark reminder of the perils of winter travel.
While the left loves to push their green agenda and force people into electric cars that can barely survive a cold snap, reality keeps reminding us that Mother Nature doesn’t care about regulations.
When a storm like this hits, it’s the grit of first responders and the resilience of everyday Americans that keep things moving.
