Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar cursed the United States at a hearing in Minneapolis-St. Paul Friday, joining her Democratic colleagues in criticizing federal law enforcement in the Twin Cities.
The Pentagon directed 1,500 active-duty troops to prepare for a potential deployment to Minnesota, Reuters reported Sunday, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have escalated in Minneapolis.
The protests were spurred by the death of Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot after she allegedly tried to run over an ICE agent with her car.
“Are you sure this is America? I am ashamed,” Omar said during the hearing, after calling America the “U.S. Godd**n States.”
“We should all be ashamed that it is the United States that is allowing for this to take place,” she continued.
Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee rebuffed Omar’s comments on X.
“What should be the consequences of saying that?” he wrote.
President Donald Trump called for prison or deportation for the congresswoman in a Truth Social post late Sunday.
Omar took to X after the hearing and referred to ICE as a “paramilitary force,” the latest in a long line of attacks aimed at the agency. She previously called for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem. (RELATED: Hotel Kicks Out ICE Agents As Threats From Left-Wing Mobs Grow)
The hearing was co-hosted with Democratic Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal and featured testimony from Minnesota officials and activists, according to a statement released by Omar’s office.
Omar previously condemned “any violence,” including against ICE agents, after she was pressed by MS NOW host Elise Jordan. She had initially slammed Border czar Tom Homan and the Trump administration in response to Jordan’s question.
