The U.S. military carried out precision airstrikes in Somalia on Saturday, targeting a senior ISIS attack planner and other operatives, marking the first military action under President Donald Trump’s new administration.
President Trump announced the airstrikes in a statement on his Truth Social platform, confirming that the attacks took place Saturday morning.

Secretary of Defense Peter Hegseth released a separate statement, explaining that the operation was conducted in coordination with Somalian authorities.
“This morning, I ordered precision military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia,” Trump stated.
The airstrikes were carried out in the Golis Mountains of Somalia’s Bari region, a known stronghold for ISIS operatives.
According to Hegseth, the attack successfully eliminated multiple operatives, including a high-ranking ISIS official responsible for planning attacks.
“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump added.
“The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.”
While the identity of the senior ISIS planner was not disclosed, Hegseth emphasized that the operation significantly weakened the terrorist group’s ability to conduct future attacks.
“Multiple operatives were killed,” Hegseth confirmed.
“These strikes further degrade ISIS’s ability to plot and conduct terrorist attacks threatening U.S. citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians.”
Hegseth also noted that the operation serves as a warning to terrorist organizations planning attacks against the United States.
“The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!’” Trump wrote in his post on X.

“This morning I ordered precision Military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia. These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians. Our Military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that “WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!””
ISIS-Somalia emerged in 2015 when a faction of al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group, broke away and pledged allegiance to ISIS.
The group operates primarily in Somalia’s northern regions and has engaged in targeted assassinations and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks.
According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, ISIS-Somalia’s estimated strength ranges between 100 and 400 members.
The latest U.S. airstrikes highlight the Trump administration’s commitment to counterterrorism efforts and its ongoing strategy to dismantle terrorist networks that pose threats to the United States and its allies.
