The White House accused the Nobel Committee on Friday of prioritizing “politics over peace” after Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize instead of former President Donald Trump, who was widely viewed as a contender, as reported by The Independent Journal Review.
The announcement, made by the Norwegian Nobel Committee earlier in the day, sparked frustration from the Trump administration, which had highlighted the former president’s role in brokering peace deals and reducing global conflicts.
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” White House spokesman Steven Cheung said in a post on X.
“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”

Machado, an outspoken critic of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, received the prize for her leadership in advocating for free elections and democratic reform in Venezuela.
Trump’s allies had pushed for his recognition after his administration’s work in mediating peace agreements in the Middle East, as well as efforts to reduce military involvement abroad.
The Nobel Committee defended its decision and denied any political motivation. Committee Chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes responded to questions about why Trump was passed over, saying the committee’s deliberations remain rooted in Nobel’s original intent.
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention,” Frydnes said. “We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace.”
“This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates, and that room is filled with both courage and integrity,” he added. “So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
Imagine thinking a woman who cries nonstop about @NicolasMaduro has done more for the world than President Trump.
What an absolute joke.
Everyone knows President Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

The White House statement follows growing calls from Trump supporters who argued the former president’s record on diplomacy warranted recognition.
During his presidency, Trump helped facilitate the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Arab nations, and played a key role in reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Supporters flooded social media following the announcement, echoing the White House’s criticism that the committee had overlooked Trump’s historic achievements.
As of Friday afternoon, neither the Nobel Committee nor Machado’s office had responded to the White House’s statements.
