Vice President JD Vance is expected to visit Pennsylvania a week after President Donald Trump visited the state to push the administration’s affordability message, two sources familiar with plans told the Daily Caller.
Trump visited Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, kicking off his year-long tour to push his economic policy. Vance will give remarks near Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and he is expected to emphasize how much the administration is focused on affordability, a spokesperson for the Vice President told the Caller. “President Trump has made enormous strides in reversing the affordability crisis left behind by Democrats. From the historic working families tax cuts to over $18 trillion worth of investment in America, the benefits of the Trump economic agenda have only begun to kick in and there is more work to be done in the new year,” the spokesperson said.
“Expect Vice President Vance to emphasize the fact that making America affordable again is the number one priority of the Trump administration,” the spokesperson added.
Trump spoke for more than 90 minutes on Tuesday, telling his supporters that the economy has improved. The president said consumers should feel relief because prices have come down, especially regarding food and eggs.
The president also repeated his frequent talking point that affordability is a Democrat “hoax,” arguing that their focus on the issue is fake because they were the ones who created the poor economy. (RELATED: Trump Calls The Word ‘Affordability’ A ‘Democrat Scam’)
Vance is expected to echo Trump’s message on the economy and the cost of living, a spokesperson told the Caller.
Following the November elections, in which Democrats notched key wins while campaigning on affordability, the GOP has strategized on how to address the issue.
According to a Politico poll published Thursday, 46% of Americans said the cost of living in the U.S. is the worst they can ever remember. Of 2024 Trump voters, 37% agree with this assessment of the economy. The poll surveyed 2098 adults from Nov. 14-17. The margin of error was 2%.
Former President Joe Biden also toured the country during his term to tout his economic agenda, which he called “Bidenomics.” As Americans’ feelings towards the economy soured, Biden and his White House abandoned the term after failing to convince the voters that things were better than what they thought. “They said, ‘Sir, we’re going to buy plastic eggs this year. Plastic eggs. We don’t have enough eggs to go around.’ I said, ‘You’re going to buy regular eggs. And by the time Easter comes, we’re going to have so many eggs you’re not going to know what to do,” Trump said on Tuesday. “You’re not buying plastic.’ And we didn’t. Brooke Rollins, our Secretary of Agriculture, did an incredible job, and eggs dropped like a rock. We ended up buying a lot of eggs, but the price of eggs is down now, 80% since March.”
