Actress and comedian Wanda Sykes used her appearance on CBS’s The Late Show to sharply criticize President Donald Trump’s administration and single out white Americans, particularly liberals, for what she called their failure to prevent it, as reported by The Blaze.
The remarks were made during her conversation with host Stephen Colbert, which aired earlier this week.
When asked about the recent controversy surrounding Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the alleged use of the encrypted messaging app Signal by Pentagon officials, Sykes responded by mocking the administration and calling for more direct action from white Americans.
“I have to say, white people, y’all should be embarrassed by this. You really should be. Y’all really need to do something, seriously. ‘Cuz this is embarrassing. I know you’ll say, ‘Well, Wanda, why white people?’ Because we tried to tell y’all! We tried to tell y’all, and y’all didn’t want to listen, so now this is your problem.”

Referring to protests during the Trump administration, Sykes told Colbert’s audience, “I see you out there protesting. So keep up the good work, but now you got to amp it up. I need y’all to go back and look at some of our old protests and get some tips.”
Sykes added, “Black people busy learning. We’re doing other stuff right now. Y’all gotta do it.” She then joked, “Black folks, we’re going to be right there behind you — not really. We’re not even going to be behind you. You know what? We’ll like your post, that’s what we’ll do.”
She also called the Trump administration “embarrassing, incompetent, and corrupt,” and made light of the reported use of Signal by military officials discussing operations in the Middle East. “You ain’t got no business being on Signal! Signal is for booty calls! That’s it! That’s it!” she said.

Sykes, who previously worked as a procurement specialist for the National Security Agency, cited her government experience to underscore her criticism of Hegseth and the administration’s handling of communications related to military action against Houthi targets.
The full interview segment was posted to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert YouTube channel and has since drawn significant attention on social media.
The Trump administration has not publicly responded to Sykes’ comments.
