A Florida courtroom erupted in chaos Friday when convicted murderer Adrian Cosby attempted to lunge at the family of his victim, 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo, during his sentencing hearing.
Cosby was found guilty of killing Camps Lacayo in 2020 over a pair of Yeezy sneakers, a crime that has left her family and community devastated.
The sentencing came to an emotional peak as the victim’s father, Anthony Camps, spoke directly to Cosby, calling him “the epitome of evil” and saying that he belonged “in prison for the rest of your life.”

The Miami Herald reported that as Anthony Camps delivered his statement, Cosby became visibly agitated. “There is no forgiveness on this earth for animals like you,” Camps said. Cosby then stood up and began shouting profanities, reportedly yelling, “What the f—k you talking about bitch” while attempting to move toward the family.
Court officers quickly subdued Cosby and escorted him out of the courtroom as tensions flared.
Camps Lacayo’s family, who had been present with her longtime boyfriend, Sergio Berben, was briefly removed from the courtroom following the altercation.
The hearing resumed after a 20-minute recess, at which point Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Miguel M. De la O issued Cosby two life sentences without the possibility of parole and an additional 25-year concurrent sentence for attempted robbery.
The case dates back to April 7, 2020, when Camps Lacayo and Berben had arranged to sell three pairs of Adidas Yeezy sneakers worth $935 to 19-year-old George Walton outside an abandoned house in Homestead, Florida.
According to court records, Walton asked to try on a pair of shoes, but Berben requested payment upfront.
At that moment, Cosby approached Berben’s car, opening fire and fatally wounding Camps Lacayo, who was in the passenger seat.
Berben was grazed by a bullet in the arm, but Camps Lacayo sustained a fatal shot to her torso.
As Berben tried to drive to safety, he quickly pulled over, realizing the severity of Camps Lacayo’s injuries. Miami-Dade Police Sgt. Jenna Parmenter, who testified during the trial, recalled arriving at the scene and seeing Camps Lacayo fading in and out of consciousness.
Parmenter shared that the young woman had asked, “Am I going to be OK?” before losing consciousness. Camps Lacayo, a high school senior and captain of her school’s dance team, was later pronounced dead at the hospital during surgery.
The case has deeply affected the community, with Camps Lacayo remembered as a bright and compassionate student who had planned to study nursing at Florida International University.
In his statement to the court, Berben recounted the traumatic events, telling jurors, “He shot and killed my girlfriend and tried to kill me as well.”
Cosby was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
Walton, who had set up the meeting under false pretenses, was convicted earlier this year on similar charges, including first-degree murder, and also received a life sentence.
Following the courtroom disruption, Cosby was returned to court to receive his sentencing, with the Camps family excused from further attendance.
Judge De la O handed down two life sentences for Cosby’s murder and attempted murder convictions, along with a concurrent 25-year sentence for the attempted robbery.
The sentencing marks the conclusion of a high-profile case that underscores the tragic outcomes of violent crime.
For the Camps family, the court’s decision brings a measure of justice, but the loss of their daughter, remembered as a promising young woman with a bright future, remains a profound tragedy.
