YGTBFKM: LA County Just Started Rent Relief Fund for Wildfire Victims and…People Avoiding ICE

You can’t make this up. Seriously.

Los Angeles County created a “rent relief fund” and began accepting applications in December of last year, closing in on a year after the fire devastated the region.

It was odd timing, you would think, given how long after the wildfires displaced people from their homes and jobs. Until you look at the eligibility requirements, and then, suddenly, the whole thing makes sense.

Wait it gets way worse https://t.co/sIisNBbqn8

 LA COUNTY SCAM ALERT!

Broke LA County created a $30 million rent relief fund for wildfire & ICE raids victims. $15,000 over 6 months.

But read the fine print 👇 PRIORITY goes to  people in “COVID vulnerability” zones on LA’s “equity map” 👇

PALISADES DOESN’T COUNT!

What a scam!

@LindseyPHorvath claims the money can go to Palisades Fire victims but the county’s own made-up COVID “equity map” (what does COVID have to do with this?!) rigs it so that residents of the Palisades are essentially in eligible! The county will run out of funds long before they even get to their applications! The illegal immigrants will take all the cash.

The “relief” provided has some interesting eligibility requirements related to “equity,” and not coincidentally, it is not specifically aimed at people damaged by the fire, although they lead with that for public relations reasons.

What is it really about? Helping hide people from ICE and providing assistance to people who are “victims” of ICE raids. In fact, very few people impacted by the fires will turn out to be eligible because the COVID equity maps are all about directing money to areas dominated by minorities.

As I said, you can’t make this up.

Here are some **similar rent relief or emergency housing assistance programs** in California (primarily focused on recent disasters like wildfires, with some addressing immigrant/undocumented community needs due to enforcement actions or other hardships). These are short and concise:

– **LA County Emergency Rent Relief Program (ERRP)** — The referenced $30M program (up to $15,000/household for up to 6 months rent) for 2025 Eaton/Palisades wildfire victims and those impacted by ICE raids/federal immigration actions. Applications via http://lacountyrentrelief.com (reopened Feb 2026 for direct tenant applications).

– **805 UndocuFund Emergency Assistance Fund** — Covers rent/mortgage and other needs for undocumented/mixed-status families in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties affected by immigration enforcement, wildfires, or disasters (ongoing since 2018, distributed millions in prior wildfire responses).

– **Disaster Relief Assistance for Immigrants (DRAI)** — State-funded one-time payments (up to $1,000/household) for undocumented immigrants impacted by disasters (originally COVID-focused but model for similar emergencies; administered via California Rural Legal Assistance).

– **FEMA Rental Assistance** — Federal program for wildfire-displaced renters in LA County (temporary rent payments if home uninhabitable; apply via http://disasterassistance.gov, deadline March 2025 for 2025 fires).

– **CalAssist Mortgage Fund** — State program expanded for 2025 LA wildfires (mortgage relief grants for displaced homeowners; income limits increased in late 2025).

– **Direct Relief Rental Assistance** — Private nonprofit $500,000 fund (2025) for rental help to families displaced by LA wildfires.

Other counties/cities (e.g., Santa Ana’s Ayuda Sin Fronteras for one month’s rent/utilities due to ICE raids) have launched smaller local funds, but no widespread equivalents match LA County’s combined wildfire + immigration focus in scale. Most wildfire aid prioritizes federal/state channels like FEMA or Cal OES resources.

It turns out that this is a thing in California, and Los Angeles County is just the biggest program out there.

What struck me in particular is that when I looked for news stories about the fund, the few that existed didn’t even mention the ICE raid angle, making it seem like the effort was aimed at helping victims of the Palisades fire.

Yeah, well, not so much. That is the hook that makes the program politically palatable. Even in California, it would be hard to establish a large fund in a broke county with billions of dollars of reconstruction costs and pathetic disaster relief, and admit it was aimed at illegal aliens. People in LA have their own problems right now.

So they say “fire relief.” But given the program’s parameters, “equity” will be the major driver of where the money goes. Much of the area burned down is excluded.

They say it is about the fire, but really it’s about ICE.
