Oh, let’s not always see the same hands …
Perhaps we have rushed to judgment on TikTok. Yes, it allows China to spy on Americans, turns kids into even more narcissistic behaviors, and it occupies more cultural space than it should. On the other hand, it allows idiots to self-identify.
Such as:
Tyler Maxon Avalos, 29, was nabbed on Oct. 16 after a tipster alerted the FBI to the alleged murder-for-hire plot the suspect had blasted out on social media earlier this month.
The chilling post included a photo of Bondi with a “sniper-scope red dot” on her forehead with the caption: “WANTED: Pam Bondi / REWARD: 45,000 ‘ DEAD OR ALIVE / (PREFERABLY DEAD),” court documents charge.
Underneath the photo, Avalos allegedly added: “Cough cough. When they don’t serve us, then what?”
The feds allege Avalos, who has a prior history of convictions, has anarchist ties and noted that his TikTok username was “Wacko” — an apparent anarchy symbol.
How serious was this threat? Serious enough to warrant his arrest, of course. Avalos has previous convictions in Minnesota in 2022 for stalking, according to the New York Post, as well as another for domestic battery in Florida in 2016. He was apparently still living in Minnesota while he offered cash for murdering Bondi, which he may or may not have realized is something of which this DoJ takes a very dim view.
The Economic Times offered a video overview of the case late this morning (with AI generated narration, blech). It also includes Bondi’s remarks on Antifa:
It’s not yet clear that Avalos is linked directly to Antifa. However, it’s very clear that Avalos felt very comfortable operating “in the open,” as Bondi put it at the time. Anarchists in general have operated openly and with impunity to apply street violence in pursuit of their agendas. That began in Seattle with the World Trade Organization riots in 1999, and exploded in American cities five years ago in the George Floyd riots and insurrections in the CHAZ/CHOP zones in Minneapolis, Seattle, and elsewhere.
Until now, that impunity has been rewarded (at least tacitly) by a refusal of the federal government to address left-wing political violence as domestic terrorism. Bondi and FBI director Kash Patel were already inclined to change directions, but the assassination of Charlie Kirk made the dangers crystal clear and excruciatingly acute. Putting out a TikTok hit on the head of the DoJ at this moment in time is like waving a red cape in front of an entire stampede of angry bulls. The anarchists of Antifa — and more importantly, their funders — are about to experience the end of that impunity in a whole-of-government experience.
And it’s about time.
So let’s have TikTok stick around for a while. Let’s round up the self-identifying idiots first while we can.
