Speaker Johnson moved to recognize Kirk with a moment of silence. According to members present, the request was met with vocal opposition from Democrats, who declined to participate.

Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA in 2012, had built a large national profile through campus events, media appearances, and political commentary.
