‘You Have To Respect It’: Chris Cuomo Reveals What He Likes About Trump

NewsNation host Chris Cuomo disclosed what he admires about President Donald Trump during a Wednesday podcast.

Cuomo, a self-proclaimed Trump critic, acknowledged the “two things” he respects about the president when prompted by television host Billy Bush on “Hot Mics with Billy Bush.” The NewsNation host asserted he admires how “active” Trump is and how he handled the July 13 assassination attempt against him. (RELATED: ‘Scary Times’: Donald Trump Jr Shares Intimate Update After Assassination Attempt)

“He takes swings,” Cuomo said, to which Bush responded by calling Trump “a counterpuncher” who has “a little fightin’ in him,” similar to Cuomo himself.

“No, he’s got a lot of fight in him. Look, I’ll give you two things I like about him, okay? One is he takes his at-bat, and he takes his cuts, as we would say in baseball,” Cuomo said. “You may like his policies, you may not like his policies, but he’s active, as you were referring to earlier with the executive orders and all that other stuff.”

Trump signed over 200 executive actions within 12 hours of starting his second term as president, addressing issues ranging from the border crisis to the economy.

“Here’s the other thing that I absolutely do like about him: the way he responded to that assassination attempt was extraordinary. I’ve never seen anything like that before. I thought it was cool when [former President George W.] Bush ducked the shoe,” Cuomo continued. “I thought that was cool. This guy gets shot in the head and stands up and pumps his fist and says, ‘Fight, fight, fight,’”

“Billy, we’re friends — you still wouldn’t know where I was if that had happened to me. You still wouldn’t know where I was. I wouldn’t be on TV,” he added. “I would not be in the public ever again and you still wouldn’t know where I was. And that guy’s getting up, pumping his fist. That was a ballsy move. You have to respect it.”

Bush noted that Trump is “very resilient.”

Trump was shot in the ear while delivering remarks at a campaign rally in Butler Township, Pennsylvania. Cuomo said in December that he was satisfied by Vice President Kamala Harris’ November election loss because of how some left-wing individuals downplayed the assassination attempt, as some claimed Trump was struck by glass fragments from a teleprompter rather than a bullet.

“You are out of touch. You lost the plot about how people feel in the majority. That’s what you did, and that was a perfect example of it, that situation. ‘Oh, I think it was just a teleprompter.’ You would have never assessed it that way if you didn’t wish the guy had died,” he said at the time. “How fucked up up is that? That you wished he had died? That you play down that he was shot at? It was disgusting. And I, for one, felt a measure of satisfaction that you were punished for it politically because there is no place for that.”
