Former Congressman and EPA official Lee Zeldin criticized the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of climate change funds, citing waste in the tens of billions through the Inflation Reduction Act.

Speaking with Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday, Zeldin detailed specific instances of questionable spending and emphasized the need for accountability in federal expenditures.

Bartiromo opened the discussion by questioning the extent of misused funds, highlighting the administration’s extensive allocation of money across multiple agencies in the name of addressing climate change.

Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans

“I want to get your take on how much waste there is,” Bartiromo said.

“I mean, the Biden administration had a whole-of-government situation going on that every agency was talking about climate change, and every agency was sending out money to address, quote, unquote, this massive crisis of climate change. How much money do you think was wasted in that regard?”

Zeldin responded by pointing to the Inflation Reduction Act, describing it as a “massive expenditure of tax dollars” and estimating the waste could be in the tens of billions, if not more.

“We’re talking into the 10s of billions, if not more, through the Inflation Reduction Act,” Zeldin stated.

“This was a massive expenditure of tax dollars. And in the example that I provided you, of the 20 billion going out through EPA, it was $20 billion going to a bank, distributing to eight entities which were pass-throughs giving money to sub-grantees. Many of those are pass-throughs.”

Zeldin emphasized the importance of tracking the flow of these funds to ensure accountability, noting how often money is funneled through multiple organizations before reaching its final destination.

“And Maria, you covered this on other issues through the years, where you have to diligently do your research and follow the money to be able to have that level of accountability,” he added.

“That’s what we’re working on. And it’s not just inside of EPA. As you pointed out, it’s other agencies as well.”

Zeldin also tied the issue of wasteful spending to the results of the 2024 presidential election, arguing that voters expressed a clear desire for more efficient government spending and economic policies that prioritize lower costs and energy independence.

“The American public spoke last November 5, and while they vote for President Trump, and people say, ‘Well, they didn’t vote for Elon Musk and all these people to make government operate more efficiently,’ I would say that in many respects, that’s exactly what the American public voted for,” Zeldin said.

He outlined key priorities that voters supported, including responsible stewardship of tax dollars, economic growth, and a focus on domestic energy production.

“Having a government that would be better stewards of tax dollars, caring about the economy, unleashing energy dominance, making sure that taxes are lowered and the cost of living in America goes down—these are opportunities that the American public voted for,” he continued.

Zeldin concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring fiscal responsibility and pushing for oversight of taxpayer funds.

“We’re doing our jobs to fight to make sure that there’s accountability over their tax dollars,” he said.

With growing scrutiny over government spending, Zeldin’s remarks highlight ongoing concerns about financial oversight and the Biden-Harris administration’s climate-related expenditures. As the new administration moves forward, efforts to ensure accountability in federal funding remain a key issue.
