Ex-LSU Star Found Dead Amid Fatal Hit-and-Run Investigation, Suspected Suicide [WATCH]

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead in Houston on Saturday night, just days before he was scheduled to appear before a grand jury in connection with a fatal car crash in Louisiana.

He was 24 years old.

Lacy’s attorney confirmed his death on Sunday.

The cause of death has not been officially released, but a report from the New York Post cited suspected suicide.

Houston police declined to comment and referred media inquiries to the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

As of Sunday evening, that office had not responded to inquiries from the Associated Press.

Lacy, who had declared for the 2024 NFL Draft and participated in LSU’s pro day on March 26, was under investigation for his alleged role in a fatal accident that occurred in December 2023.

According to police documents obtained by WAFB, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger southbound on LA Highway 20 when he allegedly “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed” and entered an oncoming lane in a no-passing zone.

The maneuver reportedly forced an oncoming truck to swerve, which led the vehicle behind it to collide with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

In the aftermath, Lacy is alleged to have driven around the crash scene and continued south without stopping, calling emergency services, or reporting his involvement, according to police statements.

Herman Hall, 78, a former U.S. Marine, was critically injured in the crash while riding as a passenger in one of the vehicles.

He was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A grand jury was scheduled to review the case beginning Monday.

Lacy was facing potential charges including negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

In a statement to WAFB-TV, Lacy’s attorney pushed back against the allegations and criticized the nature of the investigation.

“Kyren’s was scheduled to have his matter heard before a grand jury tomorrow wherein we were very confident the evidence, after being fully collected and reviewed, would lead to a declination of charges,” the attorney said.

“From the very beginning, this so-called investigation took on the appearance of an overzealous, targeted effort—what can only be described as a witch hunt—fueled by who Kyren was and the public profile he carried,” the statement continued.

“The decision by the investigating agency to charge him at all, in our view, was not only unjustified, it was disturbing. It’s imperative to understand the Lafourche Parish District Attorney, to this day, has not formally charged Kyren.”

Lacy transferred to LSU in 2022 after playing for Louisiana.

Over two seasons with the Tigers, he became a key contributor to the offense, leading the team in touchdowns during the 2024 college football season.

He caught a total of 58 passes that year but did not play in LSU’s 44–31 victory over Baylor in the Texas Bowl on December 31.

Before the legal case emerged, Lacy was projected just outside the top 100 in CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospect rankings, with several analysts suggesting he had potential to rise on draft boards.

Lacy’s death comes just one day before the grand jury was expected to begin reviewing the case in Louisiana.

The investigation remains open, and authorities have not released any further information regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
