Hunter Biden said the Democratic Party lost the 2024 presidential election because it failed to remain loyal to his father, former President Joe Biden, as reported by The New York Post.
Speaking in his first public interview of the year, Hunter placed the blame for the party’s collapse squarely on Democrats who, he claims, turned against his father during a critical time.
“We lost the last election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party,” Hunter Biden said in an interview with former Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison on the debut episode of Harrison’s new podcast, At Our Table.
“We had the advantage of incumbency, we had the advantage of an incredibly successful administration, and the Democratic Party literally melted down.”

President Donald Trump defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, returning to the White House after Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election following internal party pressure to step aside.
Hunter Biden criticized Democrats for failing to unite behind a single leader. “We are going to fight amongst ourselves for the next three years until there’s a nominee. And then with the nominee, we better as hell get behind that nominee,” he said.
Harrison, who served as DNC chair from 2021 through early 2025 and was a prominent Biden loyalist, agreed with Hunter’s comments in a follow-up interview with Semafor, saying:
“If Democrats had the loyalty that Republicans have for Donald Trump, the outcome may have been different.”

Hunter also addressed speculation about his role in his father’s administration, stating, “I stayed as far away as I possibly could — which, by the way, broke my heart.”
His presence remained a constant source of political controversy throughout the Biden presidency, as legal issues and federal investigations into his business and personal life unfolded publicly.
Just before leaving office, Joe Biden issued a sweeping pardon for his son covering an 11-year period. The move reversed the elder Biden’s previous statements that he would not offer clemency.
Hunter Biden had been convicted on federal gun charges and separately pleaded guilty in a tax case involving over $1.4 million in unpaid taxes.
Joe Biden had faced increasing criticism over his mental fitness, especially following a widely panned debate performance in June 2024. He later stepped aside, and Harris ultimately lost to Trump in November.
Hunter also dismissed allegations that a cover-up existed to hide his father’s declining health. “What sells, Jaime? What sells is the idea of a conspiracy,” he said. “The ability to keep a secret in Washington is zero.”
Earlier this year, the former president disclosed that his prostate cancer had metastasized to his bones, though he has since remained out of the public spotlight aside from a recent interview with The New York Times, in which he defended his use of the autopen for clemency documents.
