I don’t know if new internal polling has dropped that shows that Virginia’s Democratic Party candidate for Attorney General Jay Jones can survive his murderous texting scandal, or whether Democrats just believe that fantasizing about killing your political opponents is normal and acceptable behavior, but whatever the reason, Democrats and their allies are now proudly standing behind Jay Jones in his bid to become the highest law enforcement officer in Virginia.

Knowing politics as I do, I doubt that Democrats haven’t been polling the scandal–the Virginia races are very high-profile, and Virginia is where a lot of nationally important Democrats live. The northern part of the state is teeming with federal employees, lobbyists, and national Democrats. I doubt a single one of them wouldn’t vote for Jones, and now they are willing to say so openly.

As I wrote earlier, almost nobody who had endorsed Jones has withdrawn their endorsement, despite even the Washington Post and Morning Joe calling him out for being a disgusting and disqualified candidate, and a few had renewed their endorsement and made excuses for him.
There you have it. Democrats not going to disavow @jonesjay for saying he wants to kill his political opponents and see their children die in their mother’s arms because they’re “evil little fascists.”

But now some of the bigger guns in Virginia politics are enthusiastically backing Jones without even the least hesitation. No hemming, hawing, or apologies. They think Jones is the cat’s meow.

My personal favorite is Eugene Vindman, who styles himself a preserver of norms, a patriot, and morally superior to Republicans. I guess he thinks the best way to preserve American “norms” is to eliminate anybody who disagrees with him.

The Virginia teachers’ union, which claims to be all about protecting children–they often claim they know better than parents what children need–stands foursquare behind a man who fantasizes about the children of Republicans dying in their mother’s arms. Because nothing says “protect children” like killing those of Republicans.

Some Democrats are still ducking the issue, and of course, Pravda is mostly allowing them to. If a Republican had done anything remotely similar, every Republican in the nation would be required to either denounce him or explain why they haven’t. Jay Jones can expect to be let off the hook, and his fellow Democrats will be able to skate on the issue.

Abigail Spanberger, the candidate of rage, has already made her excuses for Jones and can easily count on every Democrat in the state to back her up.
Why? Because they don’t approve of violence, but…

I haven’t looked to see whether there are any “pouncing” or “seizing” stories yet. Perhaps this case is too severe to pursue that route, or perhaps I have just overlooked them.

Whatever the case, almost nobody has done anything serious to distance themselves from Jones. They make pro-forma comments about how unacceptable the comments were, and move on.

This, in a state where a candidate utters the nonsense word “Maccaca” and there were months of stories about it.
I am well past the point where I believe I can reasonably predict whether Jones survives this controversy or not, or even if he has a shot at winning. Democrats have gone so far down the Trump Derangement rathole that they likely talk like this among themselves often, and only regret that it became public.
What I AM certain of is that if Jones remains on the ballot, he will get over 1.5 million votes from people who know that he thinks like that and will vote for him anyway. And they will do so because they hate Trump for HIS rhetoric, the worst of which was musing about how women will let a celebrity grope them.
That still bothers me. A lot. What has happened to my fellow citizens?
