Kamala Inadvertently Explains Why 16-Year-Olds Shouldn’t Vote

Kamala Harris is on her book tour, and among other remarkably stupid and/or incoherent things she has said, she explained why she believes that we should lower the voting age to 16. 

An ordinary adult automatically understands that this is an especially foolish idea, given what we know about teenagers in their mid-teens, and even Kamala herself has quipped at times that teenagers are stupid. Adults often think back to their teen years and cringe.

Democrats also routinely argue that our brains aren’t fully developed until we are about 25, suggesting, if anything, that the voting age should be RAISED if we want to limit the franchise to people fully capable of rationality. 

Kamala Harris says that because of the “climate crisis” and “climate anxiety” among young people, the United States should lower the voting age to 16.

“They’ve coined the term climate anxiety to describe fear of not only being able to buy a home, but that fear will be wiped out by extreme weather, but fear of having children.”

“If they’re voting right now at 16 and up, they’re going to be talking about the importance of climate. They’re going to be talking about the importance of figuring out how AI is going to affect the future of the workforce. They’re going to be focused on what are we really doing about affordable housing.”

And, it turns out, that is exactly Kamala’s argument for why teens should vote. 

Listen to her argument. It boils down to the fact that kids are undereducated, totally irrational, and have been indoctrinated by adults like her to believe that only radical policies can save us. It is the kids who are socialists whose first impulse is to have a tantrum when they can’t get what they want, and it is they who are so indoctrinated in the idea that the future is so bleak that they won’t even try to preserve civilization by creating another generation. 

That is why she wants to extend the franchise to them. They are primed to be irrational and radical. 

Can you imagine a worse rationale for extending the franchise? “They missed substantial parts of their education because of the pandemic.” And, of course, what little they got was in Randi Weingarten’s schools. 

Nowhere in Kamala’s argument is there anything about the ability to think rationally, real-world experience, or even any suggestion that they can rationally evaluate policies. 

Instead, we get: they are ignorant, emotionally incontinent, and so mentally ill that they are scared that the world is going to end in their lifetime. 

This is not an outlier position among Democrats. It is mainstream, and for precisely these reasons. The Democrats rely on short-circuiting rational thought, and there is no group more likely to vote irrationally than the youngest voters. 

For Democrats,  that is a virtue.
