California’s No-ID Voter Registration System Called Out by Andrew Gruel [WATCH]

Andrew Gruel said California’s voter registration system allows individuals to register and be placed on voter rolls without providing proof of citizenship or identification, placing responsibility on state-level policies rather than local election officials.

In a statement addressing voter registration procedures in California, Gruel said the process begins automatically through state agencies and does not require citizenship verification.

He said individuals who obtain a driver’s license or state identification card are registered to vote without being required to prove citizenship.

“When you go to the DMV and you get a driver’s license or an ID, you register to vote, you do not need any citizenship to do that,” Gruel said.

He added that the same applies to individuals receiving benefits from the state.

“When you get any benefits in the state of California, they send you a voter registration card. You do not need to show any ID or proof of citizenship to do that. Then you’re on the voter rolls.”

Gruel said once individuals are added to the voter rolls, the system continues to add names without adequate verification measures.

“Those voter rolls, they keep adding people on over and over and over again, and nobody’s cross referencing IDs on those voter rolls,” he said.

He described conversations with local election officials, stating that registrars operate within constraints set by state authorities.

“So when you talk to Bob page on a local level, or any local, any local Registrar of Voters, they’re going to say, Well, yeah, we’ve got a really great operation on site. We’re just taking what Sacramento gives us,” Gruel said.

According to Gruel, local officials say they are prohibited from requesting identification or verifying citizenship under current state rules.

“In regards to the rules, we can’t ask for ID on site, or we can’t cross reference ID,” he said.

Gruel said this leads to responsibility being shifted away from local offices.

“So the problem isn’t ours anymore, right? It’s that diffusion of responsibility,” Gruel said.

He stated that state officials bear responsibility for the system. “So the reality is, Sacramento’s got the problem in their hands, and they’re avoiding it by pushing it around.”

Gruel said the issue should be addressed directly at the state level.

“So we need to that’s the manner in which we need to talk about this subject,” he said.

He reiterated that California voter registration does not include citizenship verification.

“It is 100% fact that you do not need to prove any citizenship to get voter registration in California,” Gruel said.

He described the process required to become a registered voter.

“To become a voter in California, all you have to do is check a box and say that, yeah, I’m legal. And they don’t check, they don’t ask. They absolutely nothing, and there is zero flags.”

Gruel said voter fraud was detected in Orange County only because federal safeguards were triggered.

“The only reason the dog got caught in Orange County was because it voted in a federal election that does have the flags,” he said.

He said this demonstrated broader problems with the state’s voter registration system.

“So God know our roles in California are screwed, and we got to get them straightened up,” Gruel said.

Gruel also referenced a local measure that he described as a success, stating that his city requires voter identification.

He said the requirement was approved by voters and contrasts with statewide policies governing registration procedures.

Throughout his statement, Gruel maintained that local election offices are bound by rules established at the state level and that any changes must come from Sacramento.

He said the lack of citizenship verification and identification requirements is a function of state policy rather than actions taken by county registrars.

He said the issues he described should be addressed by lawmakers responsible for setting statewide election rules, reiterating that current procedures allow voter registration without citizenship checks and rely on self-attestation without verification.
