A Florida man is being credited with rescuing two toddlers who wandered into oncoming traffic in Brevard County after becoming separated from their family at a nearby Airbnb, according to dash camera footage and local reporting, as reported by The New York Post.
John Brittingham, a father of five, was driving through Brevard County on Sunday after completing a real estate photo shoot when he noticed two small children walking into a busy roadway.
Brittingham stopped his vehicle and intervened as traffic approached.
Dash camera footage from Brittingham’s car shows one toddler standing in the middle of the road while vehicles moved nearby.

Brittingham exited his vehicle, halted traffic with one hand, and picked up the first child with the other. A second toddler, who was closer to the sidewalk, then walked toward him with her arms raised.

Brittingham picked her up moments later and carried both children to safety.
The entire rescue, from the moment the children were in the roadway to when they were back on the sidewalk, took approximately six seconds, according to the footage.
“I was terrified thinking of what could have happened to them. The rest of my life would have been ruined,” Brittingham told WESH in an interview following the incident.
After ensuring the children were no longer in immediate danger, Brittingham said he looked around for adults but did not see anyone supervising the toddlers.
He estimated that the girls were no older than 2 years old. Brittingham described how the children instinctively reached out to him to be carried out of harm’s way.
With no guardians in sight, Brittingham began going door to door on a nearby residential street to locate the children’s family.
After several attempts, he arrived at an Airbnb property a short distance away. He said it took repeated shouting before someone inside responded.
According to Brittingham, the occupants of the Airbnb were an elderly couple and a young girl, who he identified as members of the toddlers’ family.
He said they apologized repeatedly once they realized the children had left the property and wandered into the road.
“I was like, ‘Yeah, I know, I’m just glad I could get them back to you. They were out in the road, and your gate was open’,” Brittingham told the outlet.
Brittingham said he chose not to contact law enforcement after reuniting the toddlers with their family, explaining that his priority was ensuring the children were safe and returned to their guardians.
The incident prompted a response from Brittingham’s employer, a Florida-based drone company, which shared the dash camera footage and a message on Facebook.
In the post, the company criticized drivers who honked at the toddlers as they walked into traffic and urged motorists to be more attentive.
“Y’all this could have turned out so tragic,” the company wrote. “Please always watch out. You never know.”
No injuries were reported, and authorities were not called to the scene. The video has since circulated online, drawing attention to the quick actions that prevented a potentially deadly outcome on a busy Florida roadway.
